Colin Fox, co-convener of the Scottish Socialist Party who took part in the CWU debates, said: There was always a strong suspicion that the consultation was not as honest and as sincere as it should have been.
A "strong suspicion" from who? Colin himself? Clearly he didn't like the No endorsement so looked for ways to debase the decision.
What a truly pointless article.

Not totally pointless surely. It helped you raise concerns about Colin and it has helped generate a small debate on here.

and it was a UK CWU decision as last year we received a letter from the CWU in London basically telling us we shouldn't be voting NO ... I fired several angry emails to the CWU in London pointing out to them that it had f*ck all to do with them and asking them who the f*ck they think they are telling us who to vote for ... some clown Andy Kerr responded to them and I put him in his place as well

The majority of post people in Scotland will vote how they want to not what the union advise them to,for what it's worth I will be voting no because I think that's the best way forward but I won't moan at anybody voting yes.

If any undecided Scots saw the Andrew Marr show on the 16th March they should have had their minds made for them.
How could any voter possibly put any faith in a future where Ali McSlobber has a say? His entire interview consisted of arrogant snide put-downs of Marr rather than constructive and informative answers to genuine concerns re currency, etc.
Especially good was his assertion that should Sterling not be an option, then plans B, C, and D had already been arranged, but he couldn't say what they were.
What a complete a*se that bloke is.

Well I can only speak for myself but I wouldn't trust any politician to say anything but what would further their cause.

The cause in this being the case for Scottish independence, so then why waste 10 minutes on sneering put-downs of Marr, the BBC etc?
Hinders (rather than helps) the cause he's promoting, and gives the impression that the ideas and solutions have all but dried up.

So the well-known and skillful debater Alex McSlob was beaten by the total non-entity Alistair Darling. After all the prep work McBollix and his team must have done, all he can resort to is Paxman references against someone with the presence and debating skills of a goldfish?
"It's oor pooond too" was all he could pitifully wail in response. God help you lot north of the border.... :wave

3 Englishman in my office and they are all voting Yes.They did their research and concluded that better together are talking out their arse.So the anti English thing is not present in the Yes campaign and if it was that bad why is there 400 000 English born living in Scotland.

I presume that the £1.5 trillion debt and 77% Debt to GDP ratio in the UK means it some some sort of safe bet.
The banks and the country are insolvent and all the main parties are giving us the same bad medicine as before.
Theres a property bubble in London and theres privatisation on the move in the NHS and anybody who says f**k this for a game of soldiers is laughed at.

People like you want to know the price of cheese in an independent Scotland while being unable to explain what the UK is going to look like in 5 years time but any country that may by default put Boris Johnson in charge is one worth escaping from if given half a chance.

You're wasting your time Dan, these guys want a rock solid 100% solution on Scotland's economic future right down to the final penny despite the fact that the main stumbling block towards any concrete final plan is actually Westminster's unwillingness to discuss any future plans for the dissolution of the Union.

Milliband, Darling and Cameron can scream "no pound" all they want but at the end of the day the way forward would be through negotiation and these plonkers won't be making that decision, the bankers will and they'll do what's best for the bankers with little regard for petty party politics, If they decide a temporary monetary union is the best solution, that's what it will be and the politicians will just have to swallow it.

No matter what side of the debate you sit on this ridiculous idea that Scotland's currency can be decided by Salmond or any of the twats from Westminster is completely laughable.

A New Scottish Currency? It Could Climb Against the Sterling in the Medium Term says Analyst

http://www.poundsterlinglive.com/£-li ... e-45435435" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Research on the question of currency in the Scottish referendum debate continues to rage, just weeks ahead of the referendum.

Deutsche Bank have looked at the many scenarios presented on the currency front and have interesting suggestions on how a brand new Scottish currency would perform.

In a note to clients Deutsche Bank touch on currency valuations and a range of other scenarios that exist surrounding the currency question.

The stakes can't be higher; "never in history has there been a monetary union breakup in a unitary state with such a modern and complex financial sector," says Oliver Harvey at Deutsche Bank.

Harvey has said both the UK and Scottish governments should be hard at work planning for the possibility of a UK breakup owing to the complexities posed by the currency question.

Here are the key currency considerations facing an independent Scotland and the remaining UK according to Deutsche Bank:

The UK government have dismissed a currency union with an independent Scotland, but it would in practice be impossible to unilaterally sever the Scottish banking system from the rest of the UK without major risks to financial stability.
At the same time, Scotland could not ‘share’ sterling in the absence of central bank financing. ‘Sterlingization’ would carry very substantial risks for Scottish growth.
A currency union is one option the governments of an independent Scotland and the rest of the United Kingdom (RUK) could take. However, this would not be without its own set of risks, in particular Scotland’s exposure to oil prices. A full fiscal and banking union would be required.
Creating a new Scottish currency would be complex and risky. An effective and transparent banking settlement would be required. Without one, the Scottish and R-UK governments would risk capital flight and a potential loss of confidence in the banking sector.
We anticipate any redenomination of contracts would be messy and beset by legal challenges. Scotland would also have design a new payment and clearing system and provide physical currency.
Above all, for currency separation to be successful, the Scottish and RUK governments would have to work together. Due to the complexity of the task, we recommend contingency plans begin to be drawn up now.
Pound Sterling Down, New Scottish Currency up?

According to Harvey, the impact of a ‘yes’ vote in September would be a negative for £, while a unilateral split could cause a sharp sell off.

A new Scottish currency could well appreciate against sterling in the medium term.

If a bilateral breakup occurred, a future Scottish currency might initially fall in value against sterling as a result of market perceptions of Scotland as less safe.

"In the medium term, however, the direction of a future Scottish currency is less straightforward. Relative productivity and prices suggest it may even rise in value to sterling," says Harvey.

It is also likely to be highly correlated to oil prices and Deutsche Bank see the loss of Scotland as a mild negative for sterling in the medium term.
