Royal Mail is trialling a new early morning delivery scheme in Hornsey designed to improve the chances of residents’ parcels arriving before they leave for work.

The scheme – usually rolled out during busy Christmas periods – will mean parcels and signed-for items can be requested for re-delivery between 7am and 9am.

It comes after the company confirmed it would be closing Hornsey Delivery Office, in Tottenham Lane, relocating it to Bush Industrial Estate, Tufnell Park, next month to “modernise” its operations.

Normally post is re-delivered at any point in the morning but the new service would allow people to select the specified time frame to avoid having to go and collect it.

But Hornsey and Wood Green MP Lynne Featherstone, who campaigned for delivery office to remain open, has criticised the proposal for not going “far enough”.

She said: “Customers need the level of service and flexibility they have now and this does not provide that. I think there needs to be more specific redelivery times, which can be specified by the customers – to avoid disruption and spending hours waiting in for a parcel at the weekend.”

The additional service will launch on September 22.

Now that is a brilliant idea which is certain to catch on. Now if the OPGs were to have a simple form of transport, say a bike and were to only deliver as much as they possibly could during the working day the customers would love it and the company would have a happy, contented and efficient wok force. Wonder they never thought of all that before.

Here's another new idea how about more Post Offices to take in parcels from customers and be available for call collect parcels.

Wok force? Crikey, delivering Chinese take away now, how long is my duty span going to be? Do I deliver to neighbour if they're not in? Etc ,etc

It took Royal Mail hundreds of years to develop efficient working practices, then only a few years for the new idiots at the top to destroy nearly everything that made Royal Mail a trusted and reliable service. Still it gave the Government the excuse to privatise.
Perhaps it's time for them to realise 'if it ain't broke then don't fix it'.
