If people are having to go in early to be able to complete - then it suggests there aren't enough hours in the office and part timers could have improved comntracts or more people could be employed.

People starting early and giving RM their labour free of charge are 100% as much to blame for the current situation up and down the country as those that finish early. No matter how you try to justify it, ir how many smilies you care to post.

Funnily enough, those that start early are (in general) the same people that are also finishing early.
Not all the early starters are the early finishers and not every goes in early just to complete.

Every single person in RM has and does finish early. Not necessarily every day, maybe not even every week but we all finish early. Every one of us has no one else to blame but ourselves for the mess we are all in. On these forums we all blame eachother. It's the early starters, the full timers, the part timers, the oldies, the young ones, blah blah blah and yet we are all to blame!

But let's find a section of the workforce to pick on shall we as it makes us all feel righteous!

I guarantee everyone of the posters on here slagging off early starters has finished early and will continue to do so. Yet they cannot see the wood for the trees!

We are all responsible for the mess we are in because we all finish early!!! :no no :no no :no no :no no :no no :no no :no no There have some more smilies!

Not all job description in Royal Mail are in deliveries, so to cast everyone as Routinely finishing early and before their time is not fair

Did not say routinely did I? But it does apply to all areas indoor and out and if you can find me anyone in the RM that hasn't ever finished early at least once then let me know and I'll send you a sticker! :d'oh!

Picture the scene though.

It's a quiet Tuesday. It is perfectly possible to do your own duty plus some lapsing and you know for a fact that there will be no more work left in the office for your return. You are 50 minutes before your finishing time, and you have completed your duty and taken your breaks. This is possible remember, because it's a quiet day. What you gonna do, WHAT YOU GONNA DO?

So you have done your duty, taken your breaks, done vehicle checks, used the trolley, and done your lapsing and still finishing 50 minutes early???, i wold say you need more work put onto your duty to relieve those who have to much on theirs

Go home and enjoy the early finish! But at least I know that I have personally contributed to the crap conditions I am now working under and I have no one to blame but myself!

I only gave a slightly exaggerated example, not really any scope for people finishing that early these days. But under the right conditions - a really quiet Tuesday, it would happen. Not unless the DIMS manage to convince several people to take that day (after you ave already come in to work) as their day off, then lapse another few duties :dance

Speak for yourself, I can't remember the last time I finished early!

lot of muck gets thrown about in this forum, everyone quick to point the finger (in fact its pretty representative of the current work environment) , not much understanding or sympathy out there .....between members (or colleagues).....Is there?
Look after yourself ,do whats best for you (I don,t mean dump on your workmates, or kiss managers arses), the worlds changed people (not for the better I admit) , there is no unity anymore, the union is so out of touch and powerless, you have to sort yourself out.
You can start at 6 finish at 12, start at 7 finish at 1, start at 8 finish at 2 - what you going to do ?
people do this mundane crap because they can finish early, for what ever reason, its not that hard to understand is it?

nice sentiment, but finishing early is a thing of the past. Unless your managers are totally asleep (probably is the case in some offices) then they will notice what time you finish and give you more to do to fill your hours, doesnt matter if you say "but i started 30 minutes early".
If you still get away with coming back and going home early then good luck to you, and Id suggest enjoy it while you can, because for most of us its been stopped.
