No Postie I'm talking about people coming in early so they don't feel the need to run around like a headless bloody chicken and work at a reasonable pace!!!
and thus your whole "coming in early isnt a problem" argument falls apart. If there is too much work to do to be completed at a reasonable pace, then there should be overtime paid out, not coming in early for free so it can be swept under the carpet.

No postie it doesn't because you have missed the point entirely! Management couldn't give a flying feck who comes in early don't you see???? Is it that difficult??????? Can you not follow an argument without going off at a tangent to try and score points????? It's all about when you finish! Finishing early is what causes an increase in workload, silly amounts of absorption, etc :arrrghhh

Ok I will post no more on this as I would get more sense out of a fecking goldfish. Enjoy your evening and your little bubble of ignorance. Sit there chanting "early starters are the devil the devil I tell ya!" if that's what makes you happy. I have wasted far more time than I should on this pointless post! :cuppa

Management doesnt give a feck about people coming in early for free ? well your just blew my mind ! I thought theyd hate people coming in for free and helping them with their bonuses as they keep overtime and cutoffs down ! I probably should point out that Im being sarcastic as you dont seem to even understand the harm of coming in early unpaid just so you can complete your demonstrably (to yourselves) too high workload.

Im amazed that you cant see the fault in what you are doing. Youre calling me ignorant yet, youre the one telling us how you have to start early (again, unpaid) just to complete. You can deflect it as much as you want, but I think theres a small part of you, that knows what youre doing is wrong. I hope you`ll come to the realisation sooner rather than later than what your`re doing is not only mugging yourself off but potentially your colleagues.

Who says I come in early?

Oh and again you've totally missed the point. How about your opinion on people that finish early, anything to say about that or just want to continue banging your drum about those devil children that come in early? :pray

youre the one defending coming in early so you can act as a proxy for people youre defending, it matters little either way.
People who finish early leave themselves open to lapsing. Thats purely a management issue. If you have different thoughts on this Id be interested to hear it.

Finally I think we are making headway here. "People who finish early leave themselves open to lapsing" this is the point. Not all early starters are part of the problem. But ALL of the early finishers are and they are far more damaging to the workforce as a whole! This is the point I have been trying to put across that seems to be continually missed because people just want to blame everything on early starters. Sure they often don't help the situation and many are the early finishers but not all of them. So why not focus on the real culprits destroying the job? :so there

If they started on their time and they finish early fair play to them.

Ok I agree people racing around their deliveries and not taking breaks are a big part of the problem. However, early starters who come in unpaid just so they can finish on time are also a problem. I see people do this in my office, and its not about being directly bullied by managers, its about people putting unfair pressure on themselves to finish the job so they dont have to cut off and face having to explain why they didnt finish. The more we have people telling them this is ok, the more it will continue to happen. It needs to be highlighted to them that doing this is not necessary, and in the long term their duties need to be looked at (usually brought on by continual failures over a long period). Is it a pain in the arse to do this ? YES, but ive done it myself and others in my office have done so too, its just about perseverance.
When someone else covers a walk where the normal person comes in early everyday and they cant complete, THEYRE the ones getting questioned, "well the usual guy finishes it all the time". The managers are intentionally blind to people coming in early so if the person covering the walk says "well the usual guy always comes in early" the managers tend to disregard it.

Some of these early starters who come in unpaid just so they can finish on time are on rolling contracts. Some of them are just trying to survive, just trying to get a few months more work because they know if they piss off management they won't have to sack them, they just won't renew their contracts!

As for you Dovestone. Indeed good luck to those that come in on time and manage to finish early. Just remember to pat them on the back when you are picking up your lapsing, as chances are the reason you are getting it is because of these people are finishing early! :wave

What are you implying here? that they get to "chillout" at work, whilst putting mail in the frame? Why not have an extra half an hours sleep, or just chillout at home instead? I really can't see the point in coming in more than 5 minutes early.

Here's a real wacky idea.

Arrive at work 5 minutes before scheduled start time.

Start on time.

Work to the prep standard.

Smile and politely take out whatever lapsing mail you are given before you start your own delivery.

Return to office and quickly do the sums in your head to see if you have enough time to complete your own duty.

Advise manager if you don't.

Go out on delivery and start returning to office 15-20 mins (depending on distance) before your finishing time.

Dearie fecking me!!! Where do you even start with this?

If people are coming in early in order to complete on time then there are only 2 possiblr reasons. 1) they are not performing to an adequate standard or 2) the workload is too high.

But the bottom line is, those that start early are giving RM additional labour at no additional cost. That bad a detrimental effect on the indoor work plan, from our point of view as this is turn means that there is now additional scope for lapsing, either indoor, or if the indoor workload is completed prior to scheduled time, then outdoor lapsing.

Then you get the idiots who, having been given additional outdoor lapsing will skip their meal relief just so as to be able to complete their lapsing!

Why is it so fecking hard to understand????????????????? :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh

Finishing early is what does the damage! Anyone who finishes even a minute early is playing in to RM management hands. Whatever reason they finish early doesn't matter. They may start early. They may have small walks or they may run around from start to finish.

IT IS THE TIME YOU FINISH THAT GIVES MANAGEMENT THE SCOPE TO INCREASE WORKLOAD NOT THE TIME YOU START!

If people are having to go in early to be able to complete - then it suggests there aren't enough hours in the office and part timers could have improved comntracts or more people could be employed.

People starting early and giving RM their labour free of charge are 100% as much to blame for the current situation up and down the country as those that finish early. No matter how you try to justify it, ir how many smilies you care to post.

Funnily enough, those that start early are (in general) the same people that are also finishing early.
