Mail centre weekend access

We are trialling weekend customer collections in one of our mail centres - with more to follow

This weekend sees the launch of weekend collection trials for Tracked 24 and Tracked 48 items for our small and medium business customers.

The first to open is South Midlands mail centre. This follows the recent decision to open our distribution network at the weekend, enabling large customers to post items on a Saturday afternoon and Sunday for delivery on Mondays.

Three further mail centres are to follow as customers come on line:

Greenford
Manchester and
Northern Home Counties

Making a difference

Our improved service means that small and medium business customers in these areas will be able to process orders over the weekend, and get the item to their customers more quickly.

They will be able to ship Tracked 24 items until 4pm on a Sunday, and the item(s) will be delivered on Monday rather than Tuesday.

They will also be able to ship Tracked 48 items until 4pm on a Sunday. This means that those Tracked 48 items will be delivered on a Tuesday instead of a Wednesday.

If the trial is successful, the service will be rolled out across other areas of the UK on a phased basis.

Being number one

Nick Landon, managing director of Royal Mail parcels, said: ‘Parcels competition is increasing. Competitors are expanding their networks and delivering enhanced customer services. We need to adapt and grow to compete.

‘For the first time we will be trialling, for our smaller and medium customers, a Sunday collection for a Monday delivery service for Tracked 24 products only. This will create convenience for our customers, giving them the service they need. Introducing these changes enables us to continue to compete more effectively in a very fast moving sector.’

It started off with large Tracked customers posting into the RDC network back in May. It's now expanding to smaller Tracked ones posting into the Mail Centre network
