the situation being talked about in London probably involves doing the job properly and at a low performance level and still coming up hours short.

Keep reading on this tread about postmen saying we shouldn't have an incentive plan for simply doing our job. How we should be grateful that we have a well paid job and that we should do all we can to protect our terms and conditions. How many people on this site are aware of our directors INCENTIVE SCHEME. It was announced on the 25th of July that our Directors received tens of thousands of additional shares as part of their incentive scheme. Moya received over 108000 additional shares, Matthew lester received over 98000 shares. The other 13 directors received between 28000 and 78000 shares! The Doms receive a 4 figure bonus, line managers receive a bonus all part of their incentive scheme to cut cost and save money! I personally think it is only fair we OPG also have an incentive scheme.

I'm from London been in the job over 20 years and also a member of the CWU and proud to be. Will also continue my membership into retirement. I not a rep by the way just an ordinary OPG. However, whether you are from London or up north we should all stick together. The government are bringing in regional pay for civil servants and I firmly believe royal also have this on the agenda . It is only a matter of time before they try to implement this. The only reason they are not doing it is the CWU!

I'm all for sticking together but it was the experts at the Broadway subsequently backed by the branches that ushered in BT2010 which created offices up and down the country working at different performance levels. Allowing a disreputable management structure and revision process (altered on the hop) to run amok in some areas while others remained relatively unchanged.Remember during the negotiations of BT2010 it emerged that ACAS said a performance level of 75 BSI was standard and anything above that needed to be incentivised so why did they not act back then?

Last year we had a national mandate for strike action alongside a boycott bluff that gave way to months of negotiations. The result of which is a ground breaking deal with legal protections blah blah blah.So whats the problem? get the mediators in to discuss the need for an incentive scheme and follow due process then wait for the LTB telling you the outcome because that's what the CWU signed us up to.If as warned Royal Mail couldn't give a monkeys about legal protections and the rest then we have no agreement.

Deliveries can't be axed Mon-Fri as it would breech the USO. RM doesn't have to deliver packets on Saturdays under the USO through probably somewhere between 1/4 and 1/2 of all packets are techically large letters though they get sorted in MCs as packets

Talking about what the directors and execs get as a way of salary, bonuses and incentives does not help whatsoever...

We should have fought harder against privatisation but that is all in the past now. What is happening at RM is no different from what is happening in a lot of private and even some public organisations - the top cream off most of the profit...

However, why would London want to have a separate agenda from the rest of the nation when some of the high ranking officials from London have sanctioned what RM is doing up and down the rest of the country.

A lot of people here have been saying that any incentive scheme is likely going to favour those working below the recommended efficiency levels - how can that be right or supported by any Union.

As a pragmatist (along with some others here), you should not put your jobs at risk by being unreasonable. The incentives have to be paid from profits and those profits are going to keep going down giving the decline.

The other thing also is that we live in a world where it is easier to give one person 1 million pounds in bonus than to give 150000 people £100 - that is just the way it is; we can fight it but we are not even in a good position right now to fight inequalities: we have had a good pay rise, T&C and jobs protection and some nice handouts and some more to come through shares/dividends.

Lastly, dingo appears to be making up the arguments as he goes along - now it is about London, then he wants to fight but previously before the agreement he was all for whatever RM wants...

You hear him saying "times are tough, we should be prepared for change, TNT and Amazon are making inroads, blah blah blah" but when they are asked to start pulling their weight, suddenly all these things become an issue for London.

Well said danelectro, I totally agree with you . The cwu signed us up for an incentive scheme as part of the agreement and spent a few months discussing it with Royal Mail , only to be told that Royal Mail think our recent pay rise, shares and pension gurantees and our wages terms and conditions compared to our competitors is more then generous and the business cannot afford an incentive scheme. However, it didn't stop Royal Mail devising an incentive scheme for the Directors consisting of tens of thousands of pounds of free shares! Totally and wholly unfair. And they expect the work force to make all the sacrifices! If Royal Mail want to cut cost and be more productive , if they want us to absorb and reduce O/T and work related cost such as S/A which would reduce earnings, they should introduce an INCENTIVE SCHEME to help replace our lost of earnings! Who in their right mind will go the extra mile everyday when you see your earnings being reduce year on year out? Yes we are on reasonable money at the moment, but after Royal Mail have attacked the above, it is only a matter of time before they go after our basic pay! We have to protect what we have, otherwise we will be on the same pay terms and conditions as our competitor in a few years time.

The problem with any incentive scheme at any level is that those doing the incentivising want it to drive something that otherwise might not be achieved e.g. savings, performance levels etc and those being incentivised want it to be a mechanism by which they get more money. It should be the same thing but often it isn't.

I remember being part of a negotiation for an incentive scheme for a group of admin. staff. Management met with the CWU and proposed a complicated calculation based on a reduction in headcount. The CWU reps response was "I don't care how you add it up, unless it guarantees my members a minimum of £250 a quarter we won't accept it.
