so do you guys know what this is and what it involves? is it just volunteer work or is there any extra pay

he did mention it opens allot of doors.. but i guess they all say that
World class mail is there to get you to do more in the same time it a waste of time and money :no no :no no
If a WCM initiative actually did allow you to do more in the same time then it would save time and money
Minus all the money invested so far into this "project"
Ok what's the net result? You don't know but I'm guessing somebody does and WCM isn't going away.

I've been hearing that for the last two years but it's still here and as RM thinks it's a methodology to improve efficiency it is unlikely to be going anytime soon. In fact both Moya aand Sue Whalley expressly confirmed their commitment to WCM in March.

You know what they say about a week being a long time in politics Brian, well the same must go for privatisation because it's not proven to be a money saving methodology, more a money pit. Tell me if the management cull is not an effort to shave the waste embedded in WCM. I don't know where you work cock but I can assure you there isn't any sign of WCM in my work place and anyone who was peripherally involved last year isn't any longer.

Was privatisation meant to be a money saving methodology? The management cull is intended to save money because of the risk of falling revenue as addressed mail declines and parcels are not growing as expected, Amazons own delivery venture and it becoming obvious that Ofcom isn't going to intervene in TNT expansion. IMO it was a bit of a panic measure but it would have happened sooner or later and I'm betting there will be another cull in round 2 years or so. However, with all that going on both Moya and Sue Whalley made a point of emphasising the intention to continue to spread WCM.

Brian I meant that WCM is not a proven methodology for saving and Moya and Co may have been gung ho for it in March but we are now in late July and the world has changed in light of Amazon and TNT. They need to do something a little more drastic than pretty pictures on the wall hoping to find the holy grail of savings.

The idea behind WCM is a methodology actually proven to work - but mainly on production lines, where people screw the same nut for 1000 identical products all day every day, by improving standardized activities and processes, it aims to eliminate wast.

It might even work in Mail Centres and on indoor stuff, but the spanner in the works is our basic unit is not the same every day and that corrupts it.

Also if I may be so bold the way they do WCM in Royal Mail is completely inappropriate. You don't need pretty pictures and posting simulators that's part of the training world. WCM should be stuff like portering (if done logically), Feeding IPS, plotting the most efficient way to get the mail from the wagon to the sorting area (that includes loading the wagon correctly). Also the biggest clash is that MCs may be doing WCM to their benefit, but they aren't aware that whats more efficient for them, is not necessarily efficient for the rest of the pipeline.

RM basically look at WCM on a unit by unit, or even work area by work area basis, for it to work properly it needs to treat the whole pipeline as one single entity, not separate autonomous ones.

Funny you should say that because that is exactly what Sue Whalley said at the managers conference in March. Well, she wasn't specifically referring to WCM but the recent restructuring has been done with the aim of working in a more pipeline based approach

World Crass Mail is merely to give bad managers a job, when they cock up running an office or can't handle the job they move them on to World Crass Mail  ,it is the same with these s**t planners that have fecked up many an office, the clown who came into ours spent 18 Months in our office, granted most of that time he spent knocking off one of the women posties :no no and what does he now do....he looks at the effect of TNT on the business....wow how hard is that?

For a company so into slimming down it's workforce and making efficiency savings it manages to `create` these extra jobs that don't need doing in the first place.
The grabbing hands
Grab all they can
All for themselves
