An opportunistic thief who acted in just a 30-minute window to break into a Royal Mail van is being hunted by police.

The incident took place in Hemel Hempstead’s Claymore Road in Grovehill between 11.30am and midday on Saturday.

Two postal workers returned to the vehicle to discover one of their bags had been stolen in the attack, in which the crook smashed the delivery van’s front passenger window.

A bag containing a Radley purse with cash, bank cards, driving licence and gift vouchers inside was taken.

Det Sgt Paul Hedges, from the Hemel Hempstead neighbourhood team, is investigating.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call the police non-emergency number 101 quoting the crime reference D1/14/4306.

Anyone finding the handbag, with the purse or any ladies' undergarments is asked to go to Hemel Hempstead Delivery Office and discretely ask for "Big Daz" :wink:

The vans should be armoured and have 2 inches thick glass

Sorry, but I've got no sympathy with anyone who is stupid enough to leave anything of value in an unattended vehicle. Wise up!
