IT'S not quite a heavenly message, but a London church have come close to it after opening a main branch post office in the building — the first of its kind in Britain.



Yesterday, hundreds of locals flocked to St James in West Hampstead to celebrate the post office's grand opening.

Father Andrew Foreshew-Cain, who made the decision to mix consumerism with spiritualism, said: "We're bringing a service to the local community which is an expression of Christian love.

"The local post office closed and there was nowhere else for a new one to go.

"An awful lot of hard work has gone on to make it happen, but it was worth it - God has provided."

The post office isn't the only service they offer outside of salvation. Over the years, St James has opened up a stationery shop, a delicatessen called The Sanctuary and a children's soft play centre.

Fr Foreshew-Cain, 50, who has been St James' vicar for 16 years, said the church's other businesses will bring in believers and doubters alike.

"The church was always empty during the week - now it's going to be full during the week," he added.

"We're drawing people to the church and all the profit from the post office as well as the cafe and shops will go towards community services such as mother and toddler, and debt advice groups."
