So how does that work exactly? Do you all take your your walk's bundle of redirections out on delivery, to check against each and every missort? I was under the impression that each piece of mail that should have been redirected under instruction gives something like a ~£15 compensation to the customer.OnAFlyer wrote:Fail one and it's an explanation needed, fail two and it's disciplinary action possibly leading to dismissal.wannabeek wrote:Failing 2 specials and it's a visit to the dom? Why would he not be bothered the 1st time you fail a special? Nobody's failed a special at our place without having to give an explanation to the dom.
And that's not a new thing brought in since privatisation.
Take one missort back to the office before your finish time and you'll be suspended for wilful delay.
Two have already been sacked and others suspended for minor stuff that would never have gone any further than a few words previously.

What is the difference between a runner going out and leaving letters and redi's on his bench left for him as he has gone before everyone else has finished sorting.OnAFlyer wrote:Fail one and it's an explanation needed, fail two and it's disciplinary action possibly leading to dismissal.wannabeek wrote:Failing 2 specials and it's a visit to the dom? Just been sent this
Hull & East Riding AMAL
Within some areas of the Division RM have informed CWU reps that they intend to formally write out to individuals informing them that they intend to revert some temporary staff to their contractual hours. If you are one of these individuals then speak to your rep and put in an individual grievance. Your rep will also lodge in a disagreement. However I do have to remind everyone that these intentions by RM are partly due as a result of individuals not doing the job properly! Starting / Finishing early, not using the correct tools for the job, not taking your meal relief, not working safely etc! Do Your Job Properly

That doesn't happen in our office, the cards for the SD's don't go out until everyone is ready.eastie wrote:What is the difference between a runner going out and leaving letters and redi's on his bench left for him as he has gone before everyone else has finished sorting.OnAFlyer wrote:Fail one and it's an explanation needed, fail two and it's disciplinary action possibly leading to dismissal.wannabeek wrote:Failing 2 specials and it's a visit to the dom? Not sure what you mean? If a missort is a redirection and you know it is, then take it back to the office and redirect it. It's not a letter with 'missort' left on a frame. If you don't know it's a redirection and deliver it, then you're not taking it back to the office anyway.IloveMYredTROLLEY! wrote:So how does that work exactly? ^^^
I'm talking about the major risk of delivering a missort, which if it had been prepped correctly, you would have seen it was an active redirection. If you are in a position to 100% accurately memorise every active redirection you have, including ones that are not entirely families, you either have much better faith in your memory than I or have far less active redirections.
If I find a missort, it is endorsed as such and taken back to the depot. If by some major miracle I got back before my contract finish time and I had time to check the active redirections, then walk back to the address(es) and still finish on time, sure I will do it. Oh, I should probably add, you can count the number of times I finish early on one hand.
If you mistakenly post a missort that should have been redirected, expect linos to come down on you like a ton of bricks.

Re: Privatisation starts to hit home....
He is just trying to scare you how will their be nothing in your frame in 2 years we still deliver vast majority of mail even when tnt deliver theirs, also d2d plus packets etc. Yes their will be less but we will just have to do more to safeguard our jobsOnAFlyer wrote:So, we had a visit today from an area/sector manager or whoever he was. He had a walk around the office, asking people how lapsing was going, then pointing to the frames, started talking about TNT deliveries and how those frames will have nothing in them in 2 years time.
Then he mentions loads of staff on temporary contracts are being laid off in the next couple of weeks.
A couple of hours later all of the staff in our office on temporary contracts have been given 2 weeks noticeseveral of them have got just under 2 years service in, the point at which they would/should have been given permanent contracts.
We had every manager in the office out on delivery yesterday because we were so understaffed, and they've just got rid of 5% of the remaining staff.
What's the betting they take on a load of new staff in September, ones they can leave on temporary contracts then get rid of again?
Not only this but they are suspending and sacking people for minor things, for instance anyone failing two specials will be up in front of the DOM. At this rate in a few years time RM will have exactly what they want, a fully flexible part time workforce all on temporary contracts.

Unfortunately not.Lazycarton wrote:should anyone on a temporary contract who has been in over 2 years should by right get a permanent contract?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Yes they should, it's in the agreement. Our rep got permanent contracts for our temps who had been there longer than 2 years.clashcityrocker wrote:Unfortunately not.Lazycarton wrote:should anyone on a temporary contract who has been in over 2 years should by right get a permanent contract?
The only thing that should stop it happening is 'exceptional circumstances', which in our case was a local MC closure so we had to wait until the displaced staff from there were sorted before the contracts were given out.

So when he asks should they get a permanent contract BY RIGHT, the answer is no because it would depend on local/exceptional circumstances.OnAFlyer wrote:Yes they should, it's in the agreement.clashcityrocker wrote:Unfortunately not.Lazycarton wrote:should anyone on a temporary contract who has been in over 2 years should by right get a permanent contract?

Re: Privatisation starts to hit home....
I think temp FT is different, at least it used to be. Pretty much everyone in our office was temp FT for a few years, it was 4 or 5 for me and that was over 10 years ago so it's always been the same here.Redyam wrote:3 years on a temporary full time contract. Union rep does nothing.
I know the new agreement states that staff should be given substantive contracts based on the hours actually worked, but I don't think they really expect RM to honour that as there are so many excuses they can make for not doing it.
If you don't have a permanent contract of any description after 2 years though then your rep should be chasing it up.

Re: Privatisation starts to hit home....
Dark clouds are certainly gathering, how much of it is a real threat and how much of it is a bit of "gaming" by Royal Mail is anybody's guess but either way the union appears to be caught in the headlights.
It was predicted that RM would start to pick off the weaker areas of the business not covered by the so-called "legal protections" and I'm afraid that's exactly what they've done. If they believe they can make enough savings by reducing the use of temporary staff especially during the summer months to counteract the drop in mail volumes then the permanent staff just might get another couple of years "protection" out of AFG but I doubt it.
Even if they do the reduction in staff will increase everyone's workload and by definition ramp up the bullying and harassment...unless of course you're in one of those lucky areas where there has always been plenty scope for extra work but no appetite from management to implement change, those guys will probably still be overmanned and strolling it while obviously ultimately putting all our jobs on the line....
