Overtime

Post by rjrob »

We have been told that we cannot work overtime to catch up on the back log of mail at our office if we were out on strike..

If a non striker is given overtime is that against any law? Is it victimization against someone who took part in a lawful strike?

Please advise.

Is it victimization against someone who took part in a lawful strike? = ( Probally yes, 1st step put in a grievance form, then contact your Rep in the Office)

Please advise.

Royal Mail dictat.

Did you refer to union intervention? Sad! RM executive action taking place everywhere. Seen any response from CWU HQ. Dont think so.

Discrimination

Post by mailjock »

Yea I would say it's discrimination to exclude employees who were on official strike - they have either got to pull it entirely or make sure it is equally shared.

As others have said it needs a grievance complaint on the grounds of discrimination so see your union rep asap.

Seems to be happening everywhere, but can't see how you're letting them get away with it.
Nothing like this at my place, any special treatment the strike breakers get my reps on it in a flash.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

fill out a grievance form, ask your rep about it if not sure. its discrimination if its only a selected few being allowed overtime when others constantly not allowed

Here's a copy of the letter we're hoping that every member where we're at will fill in and give to their manager. Grievances must be treated seriously by RM so maybe you can get your colleagues to fill something similar in and give to their manager (obviously change the local details).
We get dignity and respect rammed down our throats, time to ram back eh?

p.s. If they do decide to interview everyone who fills one in, make sure they take a rep or friend in with them. Never walk alone.

Dear

I wish to register a grievance against the Managers at York Mail Centre for not allowing me a fair allocation of pressure overtime.

I feel I am being discriminated against because you are denying me the opportunity to perform pressure overtime on a fair and equal basis, when individuals who did not take part in the strike are allowed to perform this overtime.

We are constantly reminded that any form of victimisation, bullying or harassment is not acceptable, including toward individuals who chose to work during Official Industrial Action, yet Managers at York Mail Centre can discriminate against the individuals who took part in said official action by denying an equal level of pressure overtime.

Being treated with Dignity and Respect is what we should all come to expect when we come to work.

It is my wish to have an interview with you at the earliest opportunity, in line with the grievance procedure, and that the normal levels of pressure overtime are maintained, as per local overtime agreements.

Yours Sincerely.

Officially RM were NOT to issue OT to those taking part in IA, they have been uptill now and to be honest it was geting my goat as we as a unit were taking official action and getting zero overtime at all, (we don`t get much anyway ) but there were extra shifts such as a Saturday night, stay ons on Sundays etc. Put it this way I take a dim view of anyone doing extra OT to make up there money after IA as its does not help the cause ie WTF is the point in going out on IA and then working extra shifts to clear the backlog ?????

It's not really meant for people to fill their boots and get full houses. Normal levels of O.T. seem to have dropped without justification, and what gets up peoples noses is that the collaberators and Agency staff are allowed to do it.

If there's an overtime ban, then it should be across the board.

Let's not allow them to discriminate........ at all.

At my mail centre in glasgow this week we had uniform grades in working 9am to 5pm on Wednesday & Thursday in certain parts of the building,we asked our reps how could people obtain overtime after A/I,answer was line managers pre booked them before A/I(doesn`t seem fair to others).Overtime is being handed out by our w/c on a daily basis to other uniform grades but our MC manager has stated he will not be throwing o/t out to anyone & everyone yet RM have brought xmas casuals in early & took on more agency workers into GMC and given them overtime for this weekend with our uniform grades only being aloud to perform weekend o/t if it is attached to your duty.THEY ARE TRY TO DIVIDE US & CAUSE UNOFFICAL A/I BUT WE WILL NOT BITE . STAY STRONG & WE WILL GET THROUGH THIS .

Just had a do with a manager this evening as one of the collaborators was staying back on O.T. and wasn't pre scheduled. The manager sarcastically stated that the MCM had authorised it and that I couldn't stay as well. Anyway I've filled one of my forms in and told him I expect it to be dealt with asap.

The MCM and this manager are on the Dignity & Respect At Work committee so it'll be interesting to see how they justify this kind of discrimination in the workplace.

I think I'll also chase up whether there are legal implications with this kind of treatment.
