Clearly there are only certain neighbours who will be in and have parcels for each other. There is also a finite amount of time allowed to do rounds in over the duty, depending on docket pressures from management and personal circumstances. Management have to allow extra time for knocking on neighbours or people will cut off, but having said that I agree that this practice should become a RM standard, most people definitely do appreciate the deliver to neighbour service. Returning sacks of parcels to the office has to become a thing of the past, they are often many miles away from the property delivered to, how inconvenient can we get as a company in today's market?

They have started doing this at ours, funny how non of the drivers who are mates with the head rep  got sent out again, although to be fair our sub rep tongue lashed the goons and the main rep. :Applause
Hmm isnt this giving the tracked a better service than the normal post? Dodgy ground to go down i would think.

What's the situation with recorded letters. For example, someone is sent a letter from the Courts. Is that person really going to want this delivered to a neighbour, or is this deliver to a neighbour only about parcel deliveries?

In our area, it's RM's fault. They moved us 5 miles away from our delivery area when we were bang in the middle of it, in an ideal position. This all despite heavy action by the council and residents to prevent the move. So the "what customers want" mantra is absolute rubbish. That said, there's more than Delivery to Neighbour available. Redelivery. Local Collect.

You do realise a customer can arrange a redelivery attempt - as many as it takes within the 18 day retention period - all free of charge. So prey tell, how is that an inconvenience?

We've had a similar brief, not as extreme as going back out but they want to know why Tracked are returned and if you attempted delivery to neighbour. Obviously RM are pushing managers to make delivering tracked a priority.

I don't attempt dtn much as a lot of our walk is private rented houses with people moving in and out all the time. I'll do it for the regular residents if I can see a neighbour is in.

All this makes me laugh, if people were really that bothered about first time delivery they'd actually make arrangements instead of ordering 20 packets a week and being out at work for every one.

In the courier RM said they see no reason why a 99% first time delivery rate can't be done  They live on another planet, asking us to compete with couriers who will leave stuff absolutely anywhere. What they should do is send a D2D to every house asking them if it's possible to make arrangements for parcel deliveries. (Nominate a specific neighbour, secure Safeplace etc)

It must be different in your office, re-delivery in ours is not encouraged by management or staff, a piece of paper is thrust into your hand and the parcel for re-delivery is either forgotten to be picked up on the correct day, even if successfully retrieved it is trundled to a repeat performance of an empty house - how many times do they get a go at it before you think, 'I'll just knock on next door and get rid?' We already operate local collect, and the local po's are worse than a neighbour at losing parcels back into the system or our delivery staff even more inept at filling a card in for the correct office. Deliver to the neighbour is number one choice for me at the moment.

I had a redelivery attempt to make last Friday. These people were in on the original attempt to deliver it two weeks prior to this attempt but they just ignored the door knocking and doorbell ringing etc. I tried the neighbours and no answer so I wrote out a P739 and stuck it through the door, and passed by again on "the return leg" back down that road, on the opposite side, tried again and no response!

Last Friday, as I said, I had the packet for redelivery as I recognised my writing on it, just visible under the redelivery label. When I got to that road I saw them coming out of the house and they got in their car and drove past me! I got there and knocked/rung on their door expecting someone to be in. No response! So I tried the neighbours, again. No response! I did the same on the "return leg" when I was on the opposite side. Still nobody responded.

So I got a large felt-tipped pen out and wrote on it Redelivery attempted -again, twice in 30 mins!!" and added the time(s) to the date on the parcel.

When I returned to the office I informed the DIM about what occurred and described the car and the occupants, just in case the people who drove off claimed I never attempted a delivery. Sure enough they did complain! Management suggested that they ensured someone was in when we attempt a redelivery. I've no idea if it's been redelivered or even collected as I've been on holiday this week. The joke is they went on holiday too from what I've been told the next day, Saturday.
So does that mean the package is on "hold" (again) for the required length of time or does that include the original delivery? Or will it now be RTS?

As far as I'm concerned it's only about parcels. We treat 'signed for' letters just like the Ticketmaster 'Tracked signature' items i.e. we don't leave them with neighbours.
Always one or two 'Signed For' exceptions e.g. relatives living very near or people running businesses from their homes using a known reliable neighbour regularly but as a general rule we take them back when undeliverable.

It is everything except Special delivery and International signed for.

I don't have the time to knock twice on the same door so it will not be happening or loops will be coming back.

The 18 day limit counts from the first delivery attempt. If will be RTS'd

So when I return to work from holiday and I see this package put out for another redelivery attempt, assuming it hasn't been collected or even already sent back, would it be correct procedure to RTS or to attempt another redelivery?

It shouldn't get back to you - the callers office should have killed it off once the 18 days has passed. If it did come back I would get guidance from a manager.
