Nice one son... move directly past GO and collect £200CharlesSpooner wrote: I would be interested if you could break down how a hard working go-getter like yourself does the job. Here's my example....
Come in a 10 minutes before start time - get a quick coffee in.![]()
Start working at scheduled start time (not before and not after)
Take mandatory break.
Perform full vehicle safety check.
Load vehicle safely using proper equipment and techniques.
Exit conversation with lino - fully and enthusiastically discussing any potential problems![]()
Perform delivery using Lightweight Trolley (NOT an optional extra - mandatory equipment)
No cutting across lawns
No hopping fences
No running
No door stepping
No carrying bags
Fill out any P739's fully and correctly - even those items left with neighbour, don't just scribble on an envelope where a packets been left.
Return to office at scheduled time.
The full delivery may or may not have been completed dependent on workload. If it hasn't been completed I'll quite often go back out and deliver it on OT.
I'm guessing you do all this only quicker?

i see what your saying about the set prices and limits etc but why are we delivering there shite.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Access Headroomworktotime wrote:why ? we are a private company now , why cant we decide what we will and wont deliver for other companys.Brain Fury wrote:Because she would be breaking the law?worktotime wrote:it cant be that bad as the top knobs at royal mail don't seem bothered, as we are still posting all there stuff all over the country and other tom, dick, and harry firms , which we have for years on end so they can set there own delivery up , so why cant moya etc turn round and say you want to deliver do the lot and refuse to do any of there stuff and then see how long they would last , they will go tits up within a week .
Condition 21(5) of Royal Mail’s licence sets the minimum percentage level of
headroom between the access price and the analogous retail price (reduced
by the maximum amount of all discounts available), for each weight step for
the duration of the four year price control. The intention of this restriction is to
prevent a margin squeeze between Royal Mail’s retail and access services.
Under Condition 21(5), Royal Mail is required to “take all reasonable steps” to
ensure that it maintains an appropriate level of headroom on each retail
product with an access equivalent.

So Ofcom cannot require RM to accept DSA mail and have no remedies if we refuse to cooperate?fishtank wrote:She wouldn't be breaking any law because there is no law on statute that says we have to deliver a rival's mail, It could potentially be deemed anti-competitive but that would take years of legal wrangling to sort out and TNT don't seem to have any issues with risking what might also at some point in the future be deemed anti-competitive, Isn't that after all what RM are arguing with OFCOM about?Brain Fury wrote:Because she would be breaking the law?worktotime wrote:so why cant moya etc turn round and say you want to deliver do the lot and refuse to do any of there stuff and then see how long they would last , they will go tits up within a week .

I'm glad that this post has turned into a slightly useful conversation rather than a slagging match. Eventually we will all have to take note of what's really happening. I'm not asking the company to get rid of older employees, I'm saying, now we are private, it won't be long until we are deemed either 'up to the job' or not. And unfortunately looking around me at work, many are not. No other company would put up with the attitude and lack of any enthusiasm and poor work rate as RM does. It's staggering, if you've worked elsewhere, that it is allowed to go on to be honest!

Ofcom aren't a legal entity, they're an industry regulatory body, they could fine us (we don't have to pay) and petition Government to remove our USO status or even our postal license (both very unlikely) but they could also fine TNT or remove their license for "cherry picking" and that doesn't seem to worry them at all.Brain Fury wrote:So Ofcom cannot require RM to accept DSA mail and have no remedies if we refuse to cooperate?
You do know who funds the postal department at OFCOM don't you?

Re: Time to be scared
I would be very sceptical about Royal Mail's true position in the whole end to end delivery argument. They know the letters business is declining year on year, they know that the longer they have to keep large mailcentres open with declining work the less efficient and more costly these operations will become. They also know that six day rural deliveries are an enormous drain on the business, they would love to see them reduced and wouldn't it be sweet if you could make those kind of unpopular cuts and have someone else to blame?
Our overheads are around 60% labour costs, they want that down to 40%, the union should be careful they aren't being made an arse of. It's entirely possible the business is saying one thing in public and another in private with Ofcom and the Government..and possibly even TNT...

Re: Time to be scared
Comparing this job to others i have had in the past i can see what he op is saying is some ways and not in others.I agree that some people just take the piddle and could easily complete on time yet still cut off every day and moan when asked to do anything that resembles hard work. They mope around the office with the enthusiasm of a mouldy turd and have a very poor work ethic.I look at these people and wonder how the hell they are allowed to get away with it in this current climate, this would not be tolerated in any other job i have had in the past.
People that say they have earned the right to slack off a bit because they have worked oh so hard for years are a complete joke. All i hear is how easy it all used to be,so basically the workforce has these bitter, workshy people scattered around that are simply sulking because the easy days are coming to end and the real world is creeping up on them.Boo hoo.. get on with it.

Re: Time to be scared
I don't go to work to "graft my bollocks off".
I put in a fair day's work for a fair day's pay at an acceptable standard then go home, most of the guys at my place do, some people work above that standard and go home early, If the business lets them do that then fair enough but it's not my thing.
Some people work below that standard for various reasons, sometimes capability and age related and in a few cases just because they can't be arsed but again if the business lets them do that then fair enough. In my experience RM is no different to any other business in that respect.
It's not my place to slag them off, I'm not a manager.

I believe that after BT introduced performance standards they turned over about 50% of their engineers.
I don't think performance standards are very far away for us. I don't imagine the results will be very different.

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Due to the physical nature of the job it would be very difficult to introduce meaningful outdoor performance standards that were not discriminatory.clashcityrocker wrote:I believe that after BT introduced performance standards they turned over about 50% of their engineers.

If you didn't want a slagging match you may have been better off refraining from criticising all your colleagues in your original post!
As far as "No other company would put up with the attitude and lack of any enthusiasm and poor work rate as RM does." What planet are you from?????? I have worked in many places before RM and for the majority people worked for the money not for the fun of it! Leave your little bubble for a while and go speak to people in the real world. Go see people working in Sainsbury's, Tesco or McDonalds etc Ask them about their enthusiasm for their jobs! For a vast majority of low level workers they are paid for their time, enthusiasm is reserved for the lucky few who have good jobs or fat salaries. The work rate for many postal workers is reasonable in a majority of cases, at least from what I have seen. Perhaps your office is full of work shy layabouts and you are just such a super star they can't keep up with you?
Union what Union? Do we have a union?
