is it just me this all sounds like back to the future coz when i started this job we had to empty boxes on the way back to the office then sort it ...that was 20 odd years ago tho

We have afternoon collection staff in our D.O, what will they do when posties do the collections?

But if last collections were at 1pm, people (especially businesses) would be very dissatisfied at having to get mail ready by then. In turn they will use other companies and the business loses as a result.

The USO only stipulates one collection a day
I very much doubt it will be all colection points. More like village locations etc, a post box in the middle of nowhere

True I am afraid. They are going to trial it in two sites in August. The draft agreement was supposed to go before pec a few weeks ago. Talking about 38 k boxes across the country. Could have a big impact on collection hubs that cover rural areas. Can not see deliveries liking this, as they will have to maintain the USo

We already do that and have done so since P&L came in, the SAs only do businesses and Post Offices between 3.45 and 5. Only about 6 or so of those left and there used to be 15 +.

38k boxes!? How many boxes are there up & down the country!?

There are 115 000 collection boxes in the UK , the 38 000 which will go to delivery staff are ones which have 50 letters or less posted in them.

In terms of the access time being changes , this is correct as well , previously 89% of boxes had to have a final collection between 4 and 7.30 irrespective of posted volumes or location

Now the spec is that 98% of addresses have to have a post box within 0.5 miles from their address which will see not only allow for some late collections to be switched off but also a reduction in the number of collection boxes. It will not have an impact on business collections who pay for late collections. `it will have an impact on mail centres , professional drivers as it could bring forward the operation due to more work being collected earlier.

There are a couple of other trials happening including a review of collection hubs and moving to satellite hubs.

The job is changing , the collection stuff in the main is due stamp letters being down by 56% in the last 7 years.

And what will happen with afternoon drivers whos job it is to empty boxes,most who are partime?
