CWU national officer Andy Furey has warned Post Office chiefs that they face a "breakdown in negotiations" unless they increase their pay offer to Admin and Supply Chain members.
At a meeting yesterday (Wednesday), the company tabled a proposal to raise pay by only 1.5 per cent, which was immediately turned down by Andy and his negotiating team as "derisory" and "insulting".
0Explaining the reasons for the rejection, Andy said: "It should be noted that the offer, which covers the 12-month period from April 2014 fails to even match the March RPI figure of 2.5 per cent."
The "appalling" low level of the offer, in addition to the delay by the company in making a proposal, represents "an insult to the hard-working members who deliver vitally important services to the front line every day."
"This offer is an insult to the hard-working members who deliver vitally important services to the front line every day"
Andy Furey, CWU national officer
Andy continued, adding: "The offer is also vastly inferior to the 3.9 per cent pay increase recently paid to our Crown members."
Further meetings are scheduled for next Monday and Wednesday and the CWU negotiating team have told the company in no uncertain terms that they must take these pay talks seriously.
0"At the meeting, we strongly criticised the Post Office for making such a contemptible offer. We reminded them of our intent to conclude an agreement by the end of July and stressed the serious implications if this did not happen," Andy explained.
"They will have to significantly improve upon the paltry offer made yesterday to avoid a break-down in negotiations."
The one year pay offer made consisted of the following:
1.5% increase to basic pay from 1st April 2014 for all grades in the bargaining unit
The 1.5% flows through to some allowances such as London Weighting, although management indicated that their proposal did not flow through to the CViT skills allowance (for servicing ATM's, using CAT VIII's in single person mode and for driving LGV's) and the Defined Area Supplements
A one-off £200 lump sum for all grades (claimed by the Post Office to be worth the equivalent to 0.5%) linked to the delivery of business change that entails significant cost reduction (job losses).

Re: Admin & Supply Chain pay offer rejected
It's an insult that the brave men & women in the Admin & Supply Chain who took part in the previous industrial action with POL did not have their pay claim sorted then.
This a typical "divide & rule" tactic aided & abetted by the CWU leadership!!!
