Re: TNTs Expansion Plan - How will they affect Blue Shirts
To answer your question in the first 6 months of TNT being in your postcode they normally take between 14 to 20% of your offices total traffic but remember this is mostly sequenced letters which are cheaper for Royal Mail to do. Now as TNT control 24% of the DSA market they simply decide what they will deliver themselves and what they will put into Royal Mail system.
They have a very crude business model where they have a ceiling of what they will deliver and will put everything else into Royal Mail.
There is little Royal Mail can do as under the Postal Services Act they cannot refuse TNT access to Royal Mail and they are tied by price constraints with Of com so cannot under cut them either.
if you look at the problem in that a letter posted in London to the highlands of Scotland it costs Royal Mail about £6 to deliver taking into account travel , and process. We do it for the price of a first class service because we cross subsidise where we might deliver say thousands of letters to say a big company. TNT in just 6 of the London postcodes , Manchester and Liverpool have managed to capture 14% of the total delivery traffic for the UK. They are due in South East and East London within the next few months and Birmingham when it is anticipated it will be announced when the Tory party conference takes places in late September.
Royal Mail estimate that if they were too lose 30% of total delivery traffic then the USO would no longer be financially viable.
if this was the case then those who have no TNT in their areas would be at even greater risk then those who have. Remember in places like London , Liverpool , Manchester and Birmigham there will always be demand of a daily postal service. If the USO collapsed then these areas without having to fund the cross subsidy which provides the USO would still mean jobs for postal workers in these areas. Granted less jobs but still jobs.
Wheras in the Rural and towns where it needs cross subsidy to provide the USO then these jobs are really at risk if the USO I collapses as it is likely that they will only get one or two deliveries per week depending on cost and traffic remembering without the protection of the USO it will cost more for delivery to certain areas.
This is why what is happening effects us all not just the areas that TNT are in. This is why we have to put pressure on Ofcom to act now before it's too late and even now some believe we are close to being too late.
There is a. Lobby of parliament in a couple of weeks we have to wake up Westminster to the fact that the USO really is under threat.
Think about this fact that TNT will be delivering to 42% of addresses but in just 8% of the total UK landmass , and cast this with what Royal Mail have to do is to deliver to 15% of addresses which are considered as rural and more remote but actually cover 65% of the land mass. Everyone needs to wake up to this threat quickly.

Is there any time frame for the Glasgow (G) postcodes area to be effected? From the map it shows be the end of 2014. Just wondered if there are any dates being floated around?

Heard from the reps in Scotland about adverts to recruit the planners for TNT happening in Edinburgh and the guess in they will not go into Scotland until after the referendum.

Re: TNTs Expansion Plan - How will they affect Blue Shirts
not worried about TNT, theyre just taking advantage of the system.
The regulator is the real problem, allowing unfair competition has KILLED the postal services industry.
Its "efforts" to improve the service as a whole to the customer has failed spectacularly. WIth privatised companies targetting profit over service quality and Royal Mail being forced to be more "efficient" and "cost effective" again, ruining the customers service.
We all know what the customer wants - what they USED to get - deliveries in the early morning BEFORE most left for work, so they could be home to get their parcels. Now they just get home to 739 cards. And businesses getting their mail in the morning so they can run more efficiently and use the postal service effectively, the current later delivery means its probably adding 2 days to turn around invoices etc. using postal services.
The whole thing just seems extremely fishy, there is a huge possibility that someone has been very well taken care of for destroying this service and allowing other companies in to cherry pick the profitable parts.

i don't blame tnt for doing this. Ofcom is the enemy. if tnt want to delivery in any area they chose. why not. just make sure they delivery 6 days a week and obide by the same regulations we do. They wouldn't be able to undercut royalmail by as muchas they do on price then

Yes of course it's every ones fault BUT if the CWU had put up a defence to RM and made the planning of the changes far more difficult causing delays to the changes and not agreeing to every single thing RM wanted and still so even today then there would have been a chance. Instead it would appear that they have become a willing partner to further RMs agenda instead of the members agenda WHO ACTUALLY PAY THEIR SALARIES.

A chance to slow down the changes by refusing to agree.

Royal Mail have been screaming about this issue forever yet I've never heard any sort of response from OFCOM to it.dingo wrote:This is why what is happening effects us all not just the areas that TNT are in. Does OFCOM have a position and if so what is it?
