I bet they praised for not bringing back much as well!
silly really! is doing that really worth losing your job? Id say no!
doorstepping is like playing with fire if you ask me.
Indeed, I try neighbours if I think they're in and card everything if not. This means I take longer than most (that and starting on time, etc) but end up getting lapsed taken off me while they finish anything up to a couple of hours early. The result of this is becoming apparent though as the DOM has identified duties that have spare time and will be making them bigger.
Considering a fair few Farms that I deliver too have delivery points that are either up turned feed buckets in hedges or out houses / farm sheds I will continue to deliver to the place the farmer has designated .
At least 4 farms I have to walk into the kitchen to put the post on the side , doors never been locked as long as anybody in the office can remember :)
Just like everything else in Royal Fail. Made up as they go along. Agreements and procedures not thought out properly and they end up full of grey areas. Resulting in managers and staff in different delivery offices all with completely different interpretations of how the job should be done.
In the last 12 months in my office they have chopped and changed the procedures on tracked items at least 3 times. Then if you happen to be off on annual leave or sick and you miss when they brief the staff on these changes you get the blame when something goes wrong.
Most unprofessional and farcical place I have ever worked in my life.
So what about one of those American style post boxes that are often at the bottom of driveways or the side of the property. Where do we stop? Delivery to neighbour is fraught with risk on its own. Your judgement and common sense should be the only parameters, the idiots who think up these policies and procedures cannot possibly cover every possible scenario,we are the ones at the sharp end and as long as you can justify your actions as reasonable , then that's that.
Mail can be delivered into a porch, and for I know the porch is unlocked. I'm certainly not going to check, it'll look a bit iffy if seen! So I don't see a problem if you leave a packet in the porch, as long as you close the door.
a strip of wood or stone forming the bottom of a doorway and crossed in entering a house or room.
any place or point of entering or beginning.
If there is a porch then the door from the porch to the house is surely the property's threshold. This assumes that the poster who mentioned the matter of threshold is right.
The only time we can use a porch , bin , safeplace is if that customer has given us permission in writing, or take a phone pic of a note left on door. Even the most trustworthy people you know will make a false claim for something lost , it all hits our future wages. The bosses are only thinking of their ANNUAL bonus , they'll say get rid of it , don't bring it back , but if there is a claim they will blame you.
Just p739 everything until that customer says why don't you leave it in the porch, then just get it in writing so it's on file with the boss. He'll give you a redirection type card for your duty for anyone on cover.
What if you put a small packet through a porch letterbox - not knowing ... and as far as I am concerned not caring, whether or not the porch is locked.
If there is no letter box on the inside door then the porch is the delivery point anyhow.

But that is not the case. The customer is the one paying for the item to be delivered, that is what we are told, hence the instructions on Tracked items. For the avoidance of doubt, if the recipient is not in ,then card it is and back it goes. Mind you, having said that, they then can't find it in the Callers Office and you still get the blame. Oh well

Your Manager does not have the right or power to make that decision, that privilege lies only with the paying Customer.
The mail item only belongs to the Recipient after having been delivered according to the rules, or upon reasonable instruction by the Customer. The Recipient can only provide reasonable delivery instruction through the paying Customer, certainly not to directly to the delivery personnel, or via note on their property or to the Manager.

The first letter box we see is the delivery point. If this is on the porch door and we leave a parcel in the porch and therefore beyond the delivery point, then I would regard that as job done. Its up to the homeowner as to how secure they wish their property to be, not us. Tracked items often have instructions to leave in safeplace if customer out, eg porch.

But the reply in the Courier completely contradicts your position.
Leaving it in the porch is the same as doorstepping.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

But in the same article they say 99% delivered first time is achievable.
Some days we're lucky to hit 50% never mind 99. They want to deliver the same percentage as couriers who get paid for each item delivered so will chuck them over fences, leave outside houses, in communal areas in flats and knock on every door on the street to get rid of them!
