Re: Revised Agreement -Deliver to Neighbour/First Time Deliv
Once my PDA gives me a option of " delivered to neighbour " along with the ability to enter which address then I will do so , but until then as I'm responsible for that packet then it's going to be carded.
Saves any questioning about missing items.

Re: Revised Agreement -Deliver to Neighbour/First Time Deliv
If we really want to be like all these other courier companies, and deliver 'first time, every time' then how about we start just door-stepping items like a lot of these other companies do? It would help the figures no end, and that's what really matters.
Fact of the matter is, Royal Mail are losing all these big contracts because they are too bleedin' expensive, not because of the quality of service on the shop floor. You could have a 100% success rate, yet any business would still go for the cheapest option. It's why Amazon still use Yodel, despite their service being utter shite. They are cheap, and that's all they care about.
If Royal Mail wanted to clean up, they should lower their prices, not try and improve service by stretching workers already at breaking point.

I could not agree more! They will not not stop demanding until we are paid roughly the same as the competition and then the price of items will be automatically lowered... They have no real interest in QOS or delivery the first time. And customers are not really demanding that or choosing couriers because their items might end up on the pavement, in a recycling bin or with a neighbour they rarely speak with.BernardBresslaw wrote:If we really want to be like all these other courier companies, and deliver 'first time, every time' then how about we start just door-stepping items like a lot of these other companies do? Royal wants to compete properly in the Parcel industry - they will have to go with Parcel Force and/or we simply deliver tracked items that will go through most letter boxes.

How about we start at 5am and get out and deliver parcels between 7am and 8.30am when more chance of someone being in

Don't be stupid, that's how we used to do it and then we didn't have a problem AND we made loadsa money but life was so simple then, they had to make it more complicated to justify WCM and/or Delivering Excellence whichever it is on whichever planet they're on. I'm thinking it's like something from "The Body Snatchers" they take normal thinking business managers who understand that a working day is finite and swap them for a bunch of mindless arseholes who wouldn't know a days work if it bit them in the arse.celerycelery wrote:How about we start at 5am and get out and deliver parcels between 7am and 8.30am when more chance of someone being in

I am not laughing about inner city offices losing mail volume, and I fully understand implications cross subsidy has for small cities & towns, BUT adding extra workload to offices who are already working at, or close to 100% is not going to save jobs elsewhere.dingo wrote:
Now cut of king I think your missing the point if London ,Manchester , Liverpool , Birmingham and Bristol lose Mail the whole of Royal Mail is at risk as it hinders the cross subsidy which provides the USO. Remember the above will have a delivery service even if the USO collapses due to the amount of Mail in those cities whereas smaller towns and rurals might only see one or two deliveries per week due to the extra cost.
So laughing about places losing work to TNT is short sighted and silly.
Its my oppinion that RM want the USO to be removed so as to move to a more profitable business model.
Its also my oppinion that the CWU has moved too slow in countering this, and has been too trusting of RM's promises of greater co-operation ( a recent example of this is RM's failure to involve the CWU in the SUN newspaper drop )
I think we have 5 years at most, before RM & the USO is no more. We'll be split up into individual units & sold off to others

You really need to come clean with what you are asking the regulator to do and what you regard as the end game because the only thing that's changed regarding the cherry picking roll out that started with DSA is that Royal Mail is now privatised but the same fraud market place remains in operation.dingo wrote:I
Of comm is not listening and claim that until Royal Mail address effierency they will not act. Now we can all continue to disregard that but the union cannot especially as Royal Mail have to submit a report to of comm within 2 weeks.
So are we meant to buy the line that the efficiencies and the 60,000 jobs lost that led to record profits this year is not enough but dont worry if we get more efficient then the regulator will step in and do what exactly?

TBH if RM want 'deliver first time' then they should make all signed for stuff no sig tracked, and make all households have a proper safe place box.
Regarding Dingo's figures saying people are glad to have their pkt delivered to a neighbour, but if there are only a couple who are in, they soon get cheesed off, thats from personal experience.

Re: Revised Agreement -Deliver to Neighbour/First Time Deliv
The answer to the above is that they will continue to ask for more efficiency and then lower wages (more work for the same pay is lower wages anyway). They will not stop until we are just about the same level as the competition and then the USO will go and we shall become even less competitive than the opposition because of fixed costs and slightly higher wages. So are we meant to buy the line that the efficiencies and the 60,000 jobs lost that led to record profits this year is not enough but dont worry if we get more efficient then the regulator will step in and do what exactly?
RM cannot win - its a slippery slope from here on: the evidence is there from other countries...
It almost sounds like we are being scolded for being inefficient from someone who has spent a lot of time and effort protecting his cronies who are far less efficient than some parts of the country.
I know for myself that I do not have that much slack in my work currently, whatever was there has now be filled with even more lapsing. Time is not even for D2Ds given that we now have more of them - RM gets away with a lot of posties doing it in their time.
There might be pockets of inefficiencies in every office and that should be dealt with but what exactly is the RM through Union asking of us. Shall we have an open-ended finish time without OT paid or with OT paid or is dingo actually advocating banking hours or what?
* DTN will be easier to swallow if they all admit that it adds more time and then work from there but just telling us that knocking on several extra doors every day and then back to the original will not add more time to the postie's day is just crazy.
** BTW, a lot of posties do deliver to neighbours anyway but at their own discretion and/or when they see a neighbour about or working in close terraced houses. We are not all lazy and un-cooperative...

Re: Revised Agreement -Deliver to Neighbour/First Time Deliv
When a customer asks for parcels to be left with a neighbour ok no problem and for this to be officially endorsed seems sensible. But to leave parcels with random neighbours is bad practice. Neighbours may not know/like or trust each other. Not a secure way to deliver mail and damages our reputation. Delivery to neighbour should be a service to request not something you have to opt out of to avoid.

Spot on, increased workload should be welcomed as logic dictates that it protects jobs. But RM seem to have a cavalier approach to indoor and outdoor workrates with no consistency in terms of targetry.chrisj wrote:* DTN will be easier to swallow if they all admit that it adds more time and then work from there but just telling us that knocking on several extra doors every day and then back to the original will not add more time to the postie's day is just crazy.

It strikes to me that some on here have a double standards , on one hand some say that only those who do a delivery can have an opinion or view on delivery matters but most on here believe they can have an informed opinion on sales and customer demands ! Which they have little information or knowledge of.
Oh it intresting that on the dat Royal Mail call for a review into the future of post comm no one mentions, remember Royal Mail is a plc and the share price drops on such an announcement no one on here seems to have been aware of such an event !

Re: Revised Agreement -Deliver to Neighbour/First Time Deliv
When exactly did the CWU become more about looking after RM's corporate health as opposed to ensuring its members get a fair deal? I accept that the health of the company impacts on all, but surely the priority should be ensuring that the members that fund the organisation are listened to and represented properly on issues like this.dingo wrote:It strikes to me that some on here have a double standards , on one hand some say that only those who do a delivery can have an opinion or view on delivery matters but most on here believe they can have an informed opinion on sales and customer demands ! You know what, if a customer wants all items left with neighbours fine - that is what they want, that is what they pay for, that is what they will receive - the problem comes, when agreeing to such terms means that the delivery span then becomes unachievable as a result, when the company and the union (which appear to have merged in to 1 organisation) insist that the impact will be at worst minimal. As I have shown by a very simplistic set of figures, which are conservative in the extreme, this potentially will add anywhere between 30 to 90 minutes on delivery EVERY SINGLE DAY - where is that taken in to account for those of us who have no interest in working overtime every day, bearing in mind we are already struggling not to over-run probably 4 days per week?

Re: Revised Agreement -Deliver to Neighbour/First Time Deliv
Having an opinion and a view is one thing but people that might be involved in policy making or in positions of importance should have an informed and considered view.
There is no double-standard involved here, the opinion expressed in this particular case is so way off target and very muddled that one has to wonder why is this person saying these things. And because the opinions are becoming more and more erratic and unrealistic; then one has to question whether the person making them actually knows what he is talking about.
So lets get this straight, are you still saying that DTN will have minimal effect on the working hours of posties - not the office hours or some convoluted argument about redelivery. If the answer is still yes then you should try a week on delivery and then you can come here tell us we are all wrong.
* Delivery posties deal with customers day in day out and we should at least have a good idea what the customers want or what their concerns are. Yes, we do get things wrong and some posties do not do a good job and some are even lazy and uncooperative but I doubt most customer have a negative view of their own posties... My opinion!
** P739 complaints, yes, but that is another issue.
*** Some people being inflexible and just wanting to work their time is also a different issue...
Has there been a poll done that reveals that customers are clamouring for having their parcels delivered to neighbours?

Re: Revised Agreement -Deliver to Neighbour/First Time Deliv
Maybe ordinary postal grades aren't interested in the welfare of Royal Mails share price but are more concerned about the union making agreements within agreements that affect their working life and not how well or poorly the shares are doing. Perhaps people should stop paying their subs and let Royal Mail finance the gravy train as the CWU seem more interested in their well being than their own members.dingo wrote:Oh it intresting that on the dat Royal Mail call for a review into the future of post comm no one mentions, remember Royal Mail is a plc and the share price drops on such an announcement no one on here seems to have been aware of such an event !
