Postal workers near Liverpool have refused to deliver free promotional copies of the Sun, leading to a show of support across social media

The news that postal workers near Liverpool have refused to deliver free promotional copies of the Sun has sparked a sympathetic response on social media. The paper's publisher, News UK, had not planned to distribute the copies within Liverpool because of continuing anger at its reporting following the Hillsborough tragedy.

Following a suggestion from the Official Hillsborough Justice Campaign, people across Britain - and further afield - have been posting messages on their windows and doors demanding they also be spared the promotional copy.
















The campaign has even reached as far as New York, an area not thought to be within the Sun campaign's delivery area:

Thing is these shite rags will not be delivered to L codes but we all have customers friends and family who do not want this but we are contracted to do it! I would say to those who come out when we deliver this shite we politely inform the customer to opt out of receiving D2D altogether!

I work in the south and i refused to deliver them, i was glad to hear so many people on my round will be returning them or will put a note on the door asking whoever delivers them not to post them through. I hated the rag before Hillsborough for what it was and is, a nasty cheap jingoistic,racist,sexist,homophobic vile excuse of a newspaper. Its false 'folkiness' makes me sick. As Fletcher said in porridge.get me the s.n and get me something to read, the best thing about today is that apparently the boycott is growing. Well done to everyone who refused to deliver them

Our Union leaders have let the membership down very badly by allowing this infringement to the D2D agreement, the SCUM SUN have obviously greased someone's palm at ROYAL MAIL HQ to get there BOGG PAPER delivered quicker than a lot of 2nd class mail is delivered, if anyone thinks that this is a ONE OFF deal to deliver D2D in less days than the D2D agreement states then you are in for a shock, give ROYAL MAIL an inch and they will take a mile as they have proved time after time after time, ALL MANAGERS only see an agreement as a piece of paper to be disregarded when and as they want, that is proved in delivery offices up and down the country day after day by MANAGEMENT BULLIES who pressure and intimidate delivery staff to take out UNACHEVABLE WORKLOADS, because they know that if the staff don't manage to deliver all items of mail the LAZEY MANAGERS have to get of there FAT ARSES and earn there pay delivering what is left un delivered, unless of course they use the old get out clause "STOOD DOWN DUE TO OPPERATIONAL NECESSITY"( back healed to you and me)
I totally support the STEADFAST LIVERPOOL delivery staff who have stood there ground and said NO to the SCUM SUN, what a great pity our LEADERS DONT HAVE THE BALLS TO DO THE SAME.

Whilst I fully agree with your stance on the Sun I am afraid that some of the details you posted are incorrect in relation to D2Ds in general.

Sadly there was no infringement. Day specific D2Ds are part of the 2010 Business Transformation Agreement.

Both parties also recognise that in addition to growth in the core D2D product further commercial opportunities are likely to exist particularly for named/specific day(s) products and/or Saturdays which may provide Royal Mail with additional scope for increased revenue. In order to take advantage of any potential in this area any further commercial opportunities will remain subject to ongoing dialogue, joint monitoring and review and will also be discussed and agreed with the CWU nationally at the quarterly review meetings with a view to capturing any viable opportunities for the mutual benefit of Royal Mail and its employees and to also deal with any workload issues.

Yes I reckon about 3-5million, but its better coming into Royal Mail rather than TNT.

Sadly no inch taken, the Union, and its members gave that away 4 years ago.

Unfortunately I think it has to be said that some union members and indeed their reps also see agreements as bits of paper to be discarded as and when.
No working during annual leave.
No seniority for holidays.
Working all your paid hours.
Removal of cars on delivery.
Use of delivery methods.
I could go on.
