What is the big deal?
There are physical limits to what you can fit in a trolley (HCT or LWT) and a physical limit to what you can fit in a van.
You have a start time and a finish time so there are 3 possible scenarios.

1. You complete within your contracted hours.
2. You go over and claim SA for the extended.
3. You cut off.

The rest is just searching for mountains where only molehills exist.
It seems to be the favoured occupation of some.

When they come into MCs to go out to DOs, how many of them per york? I can't see there being enough room on the runs to DOs unless they send them out between Saturday and Tuesday

They will be bundles of 100 items with approx 36 bundles per york... so yes lots of yorks. Our WBC is processing them over the weekend then there will be an extra 3 runs from WBC to MC on mon, tue and wed. Obviously the plan is to get as much as possible on existing DO feeder runs, especially the afternoon runs which are nearly always underutilized, but extra will be put on where required

Am I being a numpty here, because I cant find any reference in the letters copied to this thread stating the OTHER door-dustbins must be delivered MTW at 1/3 a day instead of 1/6 over the week??????
We had a meeting today and I brought this subject up and the DOM looked as if to say "what you on about?" as he had no indication of any advice like that. He is actually a good DOM the only one I've seen, and he did come up to me on my own and thank me for raising it later on, but reaffirmed that we could deliver the other door-dustbins as per normal.

All normal Door to Door items will be delivered during Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday so that all Delivery routes are clear of all D2D items before the special items arrive and the commencement of delivery on Thursday 12th June.

I think the Union has sold us out...

First we are being asked to deliver something which is not really a D2D item (its a newspaper) as part of our workload. Secondly they have agreed for us to do this without extra recompense, and third, they have not thought about the logistics of actually delivering newspapers as well as letters and packets - in 2 Days.

So we have to deliver in the region of 250 - 300 newspapers in 2 days as well as do our normal tasks. How exactly will these newspaper fit into the pouches as well as the letters. Even with an LWT, it will be hard to fit them all in for a typical loops.

Splitting the loops any further when you work in a P&L is just going to be so difficult. And I suppose we shall not be allowed to claim OT because in the managements mind, we do not have extra d2ds to do and we shall be excused from lapsing.

If we could be paid for election materials (flimsy leaflets) and allowed to do them over 3 or 7 days, why oh why has the Union agreed to the Sun for us to do this for nothing. RM pockets all the money!

And to add insult to the injury, we are to deliver all d2ds in 3 days. Thanks

This is a slippery slope and they are still trying to use the excuse that we have next to nothing to do in the summer or no a lot these days, as 'mail is down'...

To be honest,I'm only going to work to my time anyway so I'm not bothered if this happens every week oh and it's more like 650 in 2 days as we have over 1300 delivery points on our duty

The union are saving our jobs, apparently. But, don't worry, though it may lead to ill-health retirement eventually, at least you'll know your job's as safe as houses.

Do you have any idea what a really perilous state our industry is in?

I did not suggest they turn away the work completely... But what they are suggesting we do is go beyond our normal ways of operating... And on top of that we are not being compensated for the inconvenience.

Sure, they can turn away the work... Sometimes, a company has to put other things about the revenue. I call it revenue at this stage because it is hard to know precisely how much pure profit they will make from this. It is going to involve some logistical challenges for RM and posties.

And the idea that we only work to our time is all well and good. This principle keeps getting tested and stretched every time. I can guarantee that most people will be working harder than normal next week and a lot more will be working beyond their time and for nothing throughout the week. And it will start with people spending their own time to prep all their d2ds on monday or tuesday.

The Union might not have a veto but they can always get their members money for deviating from the norm. Why exactly did we get paid for Election materials - and that was not even that hard to do - at least not physically and most were over 7 days?
