When people put two first class stamps to cover the cost of a large letter, do we go to the trouble of offering a refund?

Queue up for half an hour in one of the few remaining POs to check the cost of one letter?

Surely a business with a £400 million+ profit can absorb the 9p deficit?

but its not 9p is it?

Add up all the underpaid postage for a year and I'm sure your going to find its a pretty tidy sum. Also there are costs involved why should people that do pay the correct amount have to subsidise those that don't?

They do - haven't you ever heard of a loss leader?
Buy one get one free?

What about those businesses that offer to match the prices of their competitors?

There are threads on here about deliberately underpaid PPI.
If the business correctly charged business customers then they could easily absorb the cost of one Mother's Day card.
And how much does the business make in overpayment?

On an individual basis then yes the business can absorb the cost of a single letter thats been underpaid but what you fail to understand is that its not just one letter. Underpaid postage costs millions a year in lost revenue. If RM let it be known that it was letting all mail that was underpaid by 9p (about 20% discount) through who would then pay the correct postage? You'd then get people whining that if 9p was O.K why not 15p? The system isn't perfect but you have to draw the line somewhere

As for the people defrauding RM over PPI they should be caught and prosecuted.

BTW its not an overpayment its a tip bit like you give the waiter in a restaurant!

With Clash all the way on this one. So we deliver a card saying we can't deliver a card because it's 9p short? We constantly redeliver 'free redirected letters' but someone somewhere decided to slap a surcharge on what would obviously be a Mother's Day card. The manpower alone makes it a non starter.

Notwithstanding excellent PR :thumbup

Why do RM add £1 to the missing postage amount?
