Tuffley residents fed up with driving across Gloucester to pick up missed pos

MORE than 600 people are calling on the Royal Mail to make a U-turn on changes which caused them to drive across Gloucester to collect parcels.

Tuffley and Grange residents are fed up with making a 40-minute round trip to pick up post from a Brockworth collection depot following a service restructure.

Gloucester MP Richard Graham hopes Royal Mail will revert to the original arrangements so Tuffley residents can collect mail from Quedgeley less than a mile away.

He said constituents may have to wait until the next morning to do so but says many do not believe this is the “end of the world”.

Mr Graham said: “That is preferable to having to drive an extra five miles on average. Now we have got to Royal Mail effectively agreeing that if enough residents do want to revert to what was the practice before, then it will reorganise structures and routes to allow this to happen.”

Royal Mail reorganised the way it processes mail by postcode and decided all GL4 addresses should be serviced from Brockworth. The MP says this is logical for addresses in Hucclecote and Abbeymead but not for Tuffley and Grange residents.

Grange postmaster Ash Hallett said: “We can still do a collection service here as people can redirect parcels to our offices, but they will have to pay a fee.”

Mr Graham is urging around 5,000 households to make their views on the changes known by returning a survey about the issue to him. He said between 600 and 700 people calling for changes have already done so.

Royal Mail spokesman Mike Norman said postcode areas that were split across two different delivery offices have been realigned to just one, affecting a small number of addresses. He said: “We are in discussions with Mr Graham regarding the collection of undelivered parcels, tracked items and special delivery items for residents in Tuffley.”
