Re: Star2 Scanners
Been using them at my DO for about a month now.
Defo way better than the old LDT's, but the fecking beeping is so LOUD. There looks to be a way to turn the volume down but nobody can figure it out in my office.
If anyone knows how to do this it would be hugely appreciated.
Other than that, yeah their good. Don't have to scan quite so many barcodes off walls as most of them are already programmed in - for allocating to callers etc.
7Some of it takes a little figuring out - such as when confriming , scanning recorded barcodes on signing cards and items not delivered - everyone needs a seperate reason - can be a pain at busy times, when you used to just scan 'No answer' and zap everything.
Also agree, would have been far easier to add a few functions to a PDA and just use them for everything - probably cheaper as well.

If you look at that pic of one, you'll see a blue button, that's used in combination with the "h" (increase volume) and the "m" (decrease volume). Pressing the blue button will mean that the next press of any button that has blue text or a blue symbol above it will do what's printed in blue instead. The blue button needs to be pressed each volume step you want to increase or decrease the volume by.
Our guns had to have a software update to enable the volume control, if it doesn't work for you, get whichever manager at your place who deals with the it helpline to ring up and request whatever software update is needed to enable the volume control.

Well i was able to lower the volume of pressing the keys/ or screen, but the actual beep at the scan is still as loud as ever.
Does this change with the update, or is it just the key tone that lowers?

Re: Star2 Scanners
I'm wondering if it's different versions of the software for DOs and MCs. I've not had any need to confirm delivery of any items on a new gun yet so haven't had any need to look for that option on them.

Re: Star2 Scanners
Quite possible i guess as the user guide i had printed off is purely DO related.
On the scanner from the main menu it's Delivery and then confirm. I'm guessing you may not even have the 'Delivery option.
I'll ask IT the next time i have to give them a ring about the volume thing as it drives me nuts on a busy day (oh, that's every day lol).

I think there's 4 things in the main menu on MCs, there's definitely "Inward" and "Outward", can't remember what other optionsMezza wrote:Quite possible i guess as the user guide i had printed off is purely DO related.

Re: Star2 Scanners
We just received ours in our delivery office, not using until next week but the instructions miss out quite a lot.
For example there is nothing in there about what to do if you find a special dely out of course ( not in green bag)
There must be a FULL instruction manual out there some where.?

Your DOm should have links in his emails about this to download either a shortened handy guide - or the full manual.
To be honest even the full manual doesn't cover everything, but it's of more use than the smaller guide.
But even the small guide has instructions for dealing with items that have no dun note.

Re: Star2 Scanners
Out of course items (ones that have come into a DO in the normal parcel/large letter/letter sleeves/boxes) are scanned under a different barcode from bags that have come from the MCs locker without a DUN. btw Mezza has your DO gotten on ok with having multiple DUNs in a sleeve? Locally we'd sometimes send out sleeves with 200-300 items (if there were lots of letters and large letters) which now would result in 3-4 DUNs being in the sleeveMezza wrote:Your DOm should have links in his emails about this to download either a shortened handy guide - or the full manual.

Re: Star2 Scanners
We only receive sleeves at Christmas with green bags separating each dun note. The remainder of the time we receive specials in a green sack each with an individual dun note except on occasion there are two which is a bit pointless if you're scanning bag contents not knowing which dun refers to which items.SpacePhoenix wrote:Out of course items (ones that have come into a DO in the normal parcel/large letter/letter sleeves/boxes) are scanned under a different barcode from bags that have come from the MCs locker without a DUN. btw Mezza has your DO gotten on ok with having multiple DUNs in a sleeve? Re: Star2 Scanners
There's a hard-coded limit of 80 items for inward and for outward I believe the limit is 35 items. Once you hit the limit the gun closes the dispatch for that selection and prints the DUN. For inward (MCs to DOs), the guns still print the barcodes of every item in that dispatch.

Re: Star2 Scanners
We only get Sd's in the green sacks. Apart from the lose large items.
Quite often get anything up to about 90 items in one sack with multiple dun notes, Sometimes a dun note will be clearly marked 'boxes' for the lose items, but not always.
On a busy day i usually just pick one dun note from the sack and scan all items against it.
In theory as long as all the items are scanned as coming into my DO, there isn't an issue.
I've certainly never been pulled up for an error on incoming items.
By the way, we had Romec switch the power off for 40 mins the other day and the Star scanners immediately turned off - handy eh? I know the old LDT scanners didn't last too long but at least you could do something while the power was off.

Re: Star2 Scanners
The new guns once you close a dispatch will be transmitting the data over bluetooth to the cradle which will then be sending it down the phoneline. Did they give any sort of error message when they went off?Mezza wrote:By the way, we had Romec switch the power off for 40 mins the other day and the Star scanners immediately turned off - handy eh? Re: Star2 Scanners
I had just got back from delivery when i was told the power was going to be off.
When i went into the RLE the power was already off and the new scanners were both completely dead, so i don't know if there was an error message or anything.
The power was still off when i finished and went home.
The next morning they were both back up and running as normal.
We only use the new scanners late in the day to confirm items from deliveries that use signing cards and there's only 7 of those and that's because we can't get any more PDA's to cover all the duties.
