Part-timers do get a rough deal
Full time CWU members voted the deal out time and time again before they did eventually get it through.
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........
With all organisations there are going to be things that they do well and get right and there are things that they will do poorly and get wrong. The nemesis of this union is that they have failed miserably to deal with bullying and harassment. Most cases come as a result of working to time. They have failed to hold Royal Mail to task when it comes to grievances in terms of adhering to the agreed structure and time scales. If people were and had been treated with respect and dignity then it is possible that doing lapsing would not have been such an horrendous thought, and even possibly been glad to assist the company because there in the back of their minds they are thinking that this company respects me, and I will go the extra mile. But we have a management team/structure that has only tunnel vision with pound note signs at the end of the tunnel and they will stampede all over the workforce to get their mits on that elusive extra pound. Whilst CWU have negotiated fair and reasonable basic wage increases in the time that I have worked for Royal Mail, I have seen reductions in other areas, such as D2d payments, Saturday overtime, which when all taken into account has knocked the cream off the top of the milk. Unless you have had cause to be supported/represented by CWU in some action against the company or damages from outside, then it will be difficult to acknowledge what it is that is being done for the workers, but if I am honest I would rather pay the small amount of money each week and have the peace of mind that I do have support from a gathering of colleagues who all contribute into a system that is there to dampen the extremes of capitalism and money grabbing bstrds.
in my 6th week of RM employment and haven't joined yet and only seeing our rep once briefly in a WTL session. im contracted 25hours a week but basically do 35+ a week. How much would it cost me to join. Im sure there is a topic on this somewhere but does seem like a good way of having extra protection
We as a collective are the CWU,at a local level as a rep,i deal with a multitude of issues in a constructive, emphatic manner and genuinely feel my efforts are appreciated by the vast majority,of course there are exceptions, the selfish users who ruin your faith with their skewed moral compass and lack of honesty.........but i digress,we do our best and at the end of the day, make a difference.

Best to have a look on the CWU website. Sorry not sure myself.

Chelsea, some are and some are not. We have had two previous reps who were in it to get management status and definitely crawled into bed. The latest guy seems to be much more principled and worth giving support.
Chelsea, you do get careerist reps, who are easily coerced into management, thankfully they are a rare species, the barrack room lawyers tend not to stand at election time,i believe it is healthy to have competition for places as it deters any chance of arrogance or complacency.

we have reps who could easily be managers but they have been in the union for twenty years
