I don't agree. Yes less indoor work but we are still having to sit around for 30-45 mins until the dim says we are allowed out!

With our DO leaving at 9.30 would only be possible if you came in early and didn't take MR. Most people leave from about 0940-1015. Our last lorry comes in @ 0730. Miss-sort run from nearby LDO's at about 0830.

I envy you :cry

I don't understand the H&S aspect (re leaving) as our DO will send out people on packets (left from previous day) from about 0730 :hmmmm

What H&S?

If you have 30 minutes sitting around waiting to leave, you have 30 minutes to lapse.
They'll probably change your start times or you are so overstaffed you will lose a lot of duties.
Or both.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

The office risk assesment said no duties apart from firms and 9oclock specials are allowed out before 8:30.
We already have 5-6 walks lapsed 6 days a week and almost all duties are working to their time.
If they would let us out earlier I would agree that there would be scope to lapse more duties.

...But regardless of all that you have 30-45 minutes spare per day, they aren't going to let that continue forever.

My post was in response to those that preceded it, most of which were concerned with a drop in letters didn't equate to a drop in call rates and consequently didn't actually allow time for summer lapsing.
I simply pointed out as S4W had, that the time for lapsing comes from a reduction in your indoor time as well.

Now unless all your full timers are leaving in the summer and being replaced by part-timers in the summer, then your post is a bit of a non-sequitur.
I agree with you that the replacement of f/t staff by p/t staff will reduce your indoor hours and consequently reduce the scope for lapsing, but unless your revision is based on the lightest weeks and you are having to flex up 51 weeks of the year, then a reduction in traffic will possibly allow time for lapsing.
For a variety of reasons, it might not but then again .....it might.
Even if you start on time. Even if you take your break. Even if you use a trolley.

And you can stop wondering ......I'm not.

So even if you take the worst case scenario then 4% less delivery points on a daily basis. 4% of 5 hours is 12 mins. Now you can see why RM are upping the ante on summer lapsing/absorption. Mon/Tue will be going from 20 mins to 30. Wednesday onwards they are seeking 20 mins per day (from 0 mins last year).

There is a huge assumption in this absorption - that 4% less letter volumes translates into 4% less delivery points. Big assumption IMO. But I wonder if the powers that be had forgotten all about D2D....They still need to be delivered (even if it a single item).

The figures just don't add up.

One figure will be staying the same however - my finishing time :wave
4% is the year on year letter decline. This is not the main driver behind summer absorption, which is based on how far the traffic is below the model week. This will almost certainly be far more than 4%

i cant stop wondering that, surely if there is less indoor work,,,then it follows there has to be less outdoor work. we are fully staffed. which begs the question,,,,why do we need to lapse. when we lapse what are the people doing who normally take it out.??? ive never really thought about it that much but i get the feeling we are being hoodwinked again.

Get with the program Brain it's being rebranded "Delivering Excellence" - WCM was a loser and before long they'll realise that DE is too, when calls for profit outweigh the calls for delivering excellence. I believe that present WCM Managers have had to or will be re-applying for their own jobs so it doesn't look like Moya et al are really on board.

Totally agree, indoor staff are a burden on a managers laptop pie charts not to mention they are non-productive.
NO bags on shoulders please except for Moya who keeps her big fat wage packet in hers
