Re: Sunday Working
How long until all delivery offices are delivering on Sunday? Will it be rota'd into the week? Compulsory? Who would look after my kids?

Re: Sunday Working
As was stated earlier, sun dels will prob not be a general service but to those who may pay extra for it or if it is part of a contract condition by the sending customer.
No point delivering Mondays packets on Sunday and having no work on Monday. Another point is will there be extra hours put into office budgets or will it be self financing?

Nobody's - he is an interested observer that has no connection with Royal Mail or the CWU.bustedflush wrote:gluteus maximus wrote:In most industries now sunday is a normal day of working. Yes there is, it would give you a lot more time to do d2ds, that's probably part of the reason that RM are looking at Sunday deliverydeltaforce wrote:No point delivering Mondays packets on Sunday and having no work on Monday. Re: Sunday Working
Give it a year and the sunday parcel shift will suddenly become clearing the saturday walks not completed as the managers decide to go to pub/match earlier.

Re: Sunday Working
In our D.O. Sunday working will be yet another "special duty" meaning another cushy deal for one of the DOM's faves.
Same old story. The rest of us will be given yet more lapsing during the rest of the week as a direct result.
No money will be spent resourcing - savings will have to be made elsewhere.

Most public sector, or ex-public sector, staff work shifts around the clock and every day of the year - transport, nhs, fire service, police.OnAFlyer wrote: Yet retail sector apart, hardly anyone I know even works Saturdays never mind Sundays as well. Not everyone works weekend, not even close.

And many MC staff do much the same too, although thankfully Xmas Day, Boxing Day etc days and lates are things of the past.baldrick wrote:Most public sector, or ex-public sector, staff work shifts around the clock and every day of the year - transport, nhs, fire service, police.OnAFlyer wrote: Yet retail sector apart, hardly anyone I know even works Saturdays never mind Sundays as well. Strange seeing RM staff thinking Sunday working is some sort of monumental culture change when it's been going on for decades.
For many retailers it's the busiest day of the week...welcome to the 21st century RM DO's.

Re: Sunday Working
The CWU have been calling for Sunday parcel deliveries for ages. Anyone who attended the Operation and Moderisation conference in Birmingham NEC will know Dave challenged Moya to start doing this.
Royal Mail have used Mori and Ipos opinion surveys to ask big customers about whether Royal Mail should enter the Sunday Market. Within the M25 is a massive market and this is a loss leader but is an important development.
It will be voluntary but it does not need to be just overtime , it can be used to increase part time hours or improve attendances.
The issue will be how much will Amazon, Asos etc want to put on the price for Sunday and with DPD , yodel also doing Sundays Royal Mail will not want to price themselves out of the market.
Equally it will not be everywhere.

Re: Sunday Working
There's no way I'd work on a sunday, don't care how much they wanna pay me. I'm not religious but what about 'family time'?
During the week is no good, kids at school ,partners at work. They really wanna grind us down to the bone

Re: Sunday Working
Why would RM want to pay those rates when it can employ people to do it within there normal hours???? Do Tesco's pay there staff extra for working a Sunday?baldrick wrote:In Inner London the Sunday hourly rate was £10.66 iirc, and there was never a shortage of people in MCs who needed some extra money.
We're going to end up with a 2 tier Royal Mail. Inflexible and expensive dinosaurs and the new super flexible dirt cheap newbe's. RM from what I can see in my office and from posts on here has declared war on the former in the form of P45's.
