Do you really think RM are going to spread largesse over the whole workforce? Why don't the rest of the workforce try to get childcare facilities themselves? Or is that too much effort. :hmmmm

If you're ex RM it wouldn't affect you but many units are much smaller than MP but the members still have child care issues - so how about the union suggesting what's fair south of Watford should be fair across the entire membership and a financial payment equal to the subsidy paid to those members.

As you don't have pre-school age children it doesn't affect you either. Obviously it would not be practical to have crèches in DOs, but it should be possible in MCs. The crèche at MP is open to staff at London DOs. If you think that the union should be pushing the issue you should raise it with the union.

Probably not practical in MCs either as there generally isn't any spare space/rooms

Well that's not quite true I at least STILL work for Royal Mail consequently am involved in how the money earned is dispersed - personally I would expect parents to be responsible for child care NOT the employer - better sharing the money earned by the entire work force shared by the entire workforce.

(any comments and crtiticsm etc welcome)

ANOTHER OF THEIR “LANDMARK DEALS”!
So, 3,000 Crown Post Office workmates took 15 days strike against 70 Offices closing and the loss of jobs, for union officials to present them with a small pay rise (3.9%, then strings attached to 3.4% over the next 2 years - 1% increments as cost-cuts are met!) +a bribe to vote “yes”, dependent on: 70 (or more) Crown Offices closing and the loss of jobs! And the officials are bragging about it! POL delegates at CWU conference tried, but failed, to win a “no confidence” vote in Andy Furey, the responsible CWU negotiator. At least they got heard. The struggle against official sell-outs continues...

E-mail: contact @w-fight.org
Furey takes a lot of the blame for the privatisation of Royal Mail because it could not have happened without splitting the Post Office away from Royal Mail.

Mandelson's enforcer, Nicola Marshall was installed as his policy advisor and she ran the show

The new POL IR Framework replaced elected unit reps with appointed Furey loyalists.

The elderly and vulnerable Post Office customers have paid for privatisation because their Crown Offices have been shut and they are now forced to fight their way through shops like WH Smiths to access less services.

Do you seriously think that if the crèche was closed the money saved would be shared out between the entire workforce? Any money saved would more likely go into shareholder dividends. It would probably be only a few pence each either way.

Of course not but what I do think is that there should not be one rule for one and another for the rest of the country - is it not unity is strength?

Exactly, why have a go at one office who have managed to achieve something. Surely it would be better to try to achieve this across the country. I know that will be difficult, especially in the current financial cuts environment though.

There aren't any others. Mount Pleasant is the only one. What I am saying is that MP has set a precedent, and others should try to achieve this too. We should be trying to raise conditions to those of the best, not lowering them to the worst. Race to the bottom?
