TNT can have all the mail they can carry
i no longer give a flying f**k
rem the sdd agreement if you take 10 items to one door its just the same as taking 1 item that was their mantra them
so if we end up with 1 letter instead of 10 it still takes the same time girum
give them it all
rm cwu and gvmt all agreed to open up the markets as it being good for us
well?????????????????

Fifty yard queue ?...... its thing of the past now .... 40 to 50 customers in an hour. Yes thats what our office do now.... and thats with only one posty in callers office.
Not at our office! We drove back on Saturday and there was a queue out of the door, down the steps, across the path and into the road!

By the end of 2015 they will also be Sheffield , Preston , parts of Cheshire, Oxford , Gloucester , Reading , The Southend area , Portsmouth Area. It will cover 24.4% of the UK addresses.

By the end of 2016 it will cover Leeds , Stoke and most of the midlands ,and North West , Southampton , most of Kent , Gatwick and most of surrey. by the end of 2016 TNT will deliver to 33.8% of addresses in the UK.

By the end of 2017 they will cover 42.3 % addresses in just 8.5% of the UK area.

If the current rate of traffic loss to TNT in the areas they currently cover continues then the USO will not survive.

This is why we have to make off comm act.
how does this threaten the USO tnt dont adhere to the USO ?
Because RM needs the inner city high volume short distance high profit trafic to pay for the one letter to a farm up a 10 mile track in Stornaway which has a 60p stamp on BUT cost RM about £20 to deliver.
Privatisation was designed to REMOVE the USO, politically it could not be done without costing votes, however if it's a private company were to remove it in order to remain competitive, Well, politically it can be spun as nessasary evil to maintain profitability ( and thus jobs )

Exactly. All this about 7 day deliveries, forget it. RM would need an instant, large increase in market share of parcels just to break even on the increased costs. They could not afford to stretch to a 7 day operation and you cannot compare RM's model to other courier companies because of the USO.

RM keep saying mail is down, Moya keeps saying we need to do more and be more efficient - cutting the USO to 5 days, condensing our work into those days meaning we have more to do, and saving a huge amount in running costs would make perfect sense to the regulator. It would have a more efficient, streamlined service but still providing a 5 day USO. I doubt the CWU would put up much of a fight either, as I doubt there would need to be any compulsory redundancies.

This is the quickest way to toss away one big advantage we have. Want to break people out of the habit of popping down to their local post office? Make the experience as frustrating as possible.

I know the government still owns the post office network but this is an area where throwing money at a problem will work wonders. Arrange a deal to supply extra staff, demand they supply extra staff, start up same-day evening redelivery attempts. Whatever. Otherwise we're just pushing people into the arms of our competitors.

In a related matter one of our competitors has gone from a 6 day service to a 5 day one - by axing Mondays. http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... 40&t=62210" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

and the money they saved will be used to invest in UK Market :(

Seriously how will Royal Mail cope if they do seven days delivery. I means would post delivery staff be willing to work on Sunday ? What will happens to Wallington system which means working 6 days a week and week off every 6 weeks. Also you can see how much parcels we get on Monday, It is not worth the investment.

I think we might have to have a system which everyone got to work one sunday every 6 weeks as one person can deliver all the parcels and special on six walks. Plus more injuries will happens due to lack of recovery time which will means more ill health retirement payoff.

It is a nightmare waiting to happens.

I wouldn't get too worried about posties having to work sundays just yet. It is not profitable for RM to do sunday deliveries at the moment and if/when they do decide to trial it will most likely be by specialist services, not the letters network.

All those saying that Sunday delivery is not viable, what happens when a few really big customers like Amazon (ot did anyone else see the program about them at the weekend?) say to RM. "We want Sunday delivery, will you offer it or do we need to take all our business elsewhere?".

I personally have no special attachment to Sundays and within reason I would work them. However at a minimum if I had to give up Sundays I would expect either a generous general pay rise, or a Sunday premium, and a guarantee of at least 2 consecutive days of every week.

But I think Sundays should be voluntary and people should be able to opt out if they wish, although if they did I think any guarantee of 2 consecutive days off would necessarily have to be surrendered for those exercising the opt out. :nervous :nervous

It will be tricky if they ever did introduce Sunday deliveries to accommodate everyone, however, I personally think the chances of it happening in the short term are slim to vanishing as I think Moya is preparing the ground for a reduction in service levels. But in the medium to long term I think Sunday deliveries are inevitable.

What about going back to early deliveries again. Postmen starting their walk for 7 instead of 10pm so it satisfies businesses again. I do the businesses and some dont get their post til 1.

Well they can have an early delivery but they have to pay like all things if you want it badly enough they'll pay, Saturday Guaranteed, by 9 a.m. and especially before 9 on a Saturday Guarantee - seen the price of those!!!!!!!!!! What amazes me is we attempt all but the exceptions on Saturday anyway so every domestic and business address is attempted unless we have a letter stating otherwise. Some people even pay for SG to businesses that are closed so we still have to go on a wasted journey.

The extra time mail now takes going through sequencing machines prevents going back to early deliveries again.

Pity really.
I wonder if TNT will try and get mail out early in the future once they get their foot in the door of all major cities.

If they're only doing alternate days they won't be interested in what time of day it's done.

TNT could well make inroads into the D2D market as their business expands.
