There is no demand for Sunday delivery, some couriers are bring it in and amazon are going to be offering it, most of the other big players also have a high st presence, so will continue to push delivery to your local store, a service they can operate seven days a week at virtually 0 cost. Some thing RM do need to work on is at least a 6 day a week next day delivery, as items ordered after cut off point on Friday generally won't get deliverer end by RM till Tuesday. Other couriers seem to be able to get it delivered Monday, even if ordered Sunday.

can i ask where this customer demand for sunday deliveries is ?
For a start, from those people who are at work five/six days a week when the parcel is usually delivered? The fifty-yard queue at the caller's office should be an embarrassment in itself to Moya, etc.

Introducing competition into a monopoly was designed to increase services and help keep prices down by different companies competing for the work. In Royal mail case its done the opposite, we have seen some of the biggist price rises in Royal mails history and the USO is under real threat of becoming unsustainable. To maintain the USO for as long as possible competition should never have been allowed and the Royalmail should have just remained being price regulated and just been a service first.

Yes a wonderful way for a senior Rep to conduct himself - but tell me why do you think it was thrown to the wolves in the first place - scaremongering d'you think?
Put it this way, I think the deal is already unraveling and as such it takes a good 8-12 months to get the members into the frame of mind to back the ( empty ) threat of a strike ballot ( over the long planned removal of the USO ).
Still, wave enough "folding" in front of the members and the next deal will include an end to the USO and 5 days over 7. ( one of the days being a Sunday )
Another Deal of the..........

By the end of 2014 Glasgow , Edinburgh , Liverpool , Manchester , Birmingham and The whole of London and parts of Essex and Surrey and Kent by the end of 2014 they will cover 14.6% of addresses.

By the end of 2015 they will also be Sheffield , Preston , parts of Cheshire, Oxford , Gloucester , Reading , The Southend area , Portsmouth Area. It will cover 24.4% of the UK addresses.

By the end of 2016 it will cover Leeds , Stoke and most of the midlands ,and North West , Southampton , most of Kent , Gatwick and most of surrey. by the end of 2016 TNT will deliver to 33.8% of addresses in the UK.

By the end of 2017 they will cover 42.3 % addresses in just 8.5% of the UK area.

If the current rate of traffic loss to TNT in the areas they currently cover continues then the USO will not survive.

This is why we have to make off comm act.
how does this threaten the USO tnt dont adhere to the USO ?

Well it means less work for RM, less revenue and the 6 day USO would be disproportionately expensive and liable to be dropped.

Because RM needs the inner city high volume short distance high profit trafic to pay for the one letter to a farm up a 10 mile track in Stornaway which has a 60p stamp on BUT cost RM about £20 to deliver.
Privatisation was designed to REMOVE the USO, politically it could not be done without costing votes, however if it's a private company were to remove it in order to remain competitive, Well, politically it can be spun as nessasary evil to maintain profitability ( and thus jobs )

dingo wrote:Royal Mail will never move to a 5 day week and anyone who thinks that it would be Saturday which would go if they did are not in tune with the parcels market and in particular Amazon.

If Royal Mail got rid of Saturdays they would lose Amazon and most of the other Parcels Market as they want Saturdays. In fact last week they came to Royal Mail and said that they wanted them to open the Royal Mail network on Sunday for tracked 24 and 48 for Monday and whilst this is only around 26 000 items it shows how powerful the likes of Amazon are to Royal Mail.
tracked 24 and 48 are a very low volume item for royal mail the likes of asda clothing dont care about royal mail and use other couriers

Yes, but it won't be quite as bad for Royal Mail after Scottish Independence. :wave :nana :cuppa
