in no way am i having a pop at any other jobs especally fire fighters but it is ridiculous that we currently have at least 3 posties off work due to work placed stress and others due to work related injuries , when the job was simpler this just did not happen !!
Funny how threads go
With regard to the performance issue's on heavy days. Assuming you are post revision then your model week (normally around week 16) will be based on a ave to low mail volume. When you peak above this on say wed, thurs you will exceed your time. Your dom should allow for this with advance ips or allowing extra prep etc.
If staff are being given the "talking to" in the office you should get your rep involved. If you get quoted daily traffic figures from the doms pc is pretty much impossible to argue as they have all they data. The area in which you challenge this is on packet counts and knocks. You get your rep to monitor and count packets, rec, tracked etc. You should find that this actual count is far greater than what is being inputted on the daily traffic report.
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

i appreciate that it can be a dangerous job
but they retire at 60 and they have a lot of down time during there shifts
Firefighters usually work in shifts - most work two day shifts followed by two night shifts and then have four days off.
Yes, a fireman's typical day isn't anything like a five hour delivery, more like 90% of the time waiting for an incident. and they're paid loads more than us.

Very true
im not having anybody running down the job of a fireman a job well done saving lives
Let's look into the future by say 20 years when all the old guys have gone and all todays runners and youngsters have also gone early because they ran in the early days!

i cant think of any, most jobs have a slow down option as you approach retirement even this job used to be able to go on to parcel del or the callers /mt or a smaller delivery as a pick due to seniority, rather than be forced to go at full pelt untill you drop.
what about a builder do the senior brickies have to do less work ?
As a 52 year old. I will do the same workload as anybody but at a steady pace if a runner gets put with me they are going to be board waiting as I aren't running for anybody I am paid to 2.30 and so don't mind using time given I would like my body to last
Wow. All this s**t talking about firemen. Tell me again how you risk your life on a daily basis delivering mail?
Sure,, it's bull they expect a 60 year old to be as 'fast' as a 18 year old, but that's how it is. Blame the union.

I'm not running down the job of a fireman, an essential job like us, and yes on occasions they do save lives which is very commendable.
However they know the risks, 'putting their lives on the line' as some would say but probably lower risk that fishing or construction industries, and what they will do, 'clear up body parts after a major rta', before they join and they are remunerated appropriately.
Firemen I know consider it the best career choice they could possibly have made and one, usually working nights and asleep for most of that, was pleased to be able to set up and run a successful business alongside his salaried job.
Let's talk the firemen then , their union has decided to fight for their pensions, where the CWU just rolled over, they pay large amounts extra into the pension scheme to allow them to retire at 55, the government now want them to pay extra each month, retire at 60 and under go a new fitness tests that the unions independant experts have said would be almost impossible for a 60 year old to pass, if they fail they are out with a massive loss of pension, all they want is what they have paid for, and to be allowed to leave without loss if they are foced out due to failure of the test. A local fireman has just been forced out after 28 years service, with 2 years left, with a massive loss of pension. It would have been nice to at least have had the chance to fight for out pension, rather than the union just rolling over.
At the end of the day as you get older you're body does take a big hit with the deliveries now , do the bosses care no . The senior guys who are leaving are bein replaced by a lot of Easter Europeans who will do all the hours the bosses ask them to do ,this is the future.
