5.00 am start
5.15 sorting
5.45 sorting done
7.00 out on delivery, probably 3 very full bags or 4 comfortable. about 2-3 packets in each
9.10 back at office for break till 9.50
9.50 pick up the 2nd delivery mail (consisting on average 5-10 letters)
9.55 head out for 2nd delivery
10.25 all delivered and go straight home
Saturday
5.00 am start
5.15 sorting
5.45 sorting done
7.00 out on delivery, probably 3 comfortable bags. about 2-3 packets in each
9.00 back at office and go home
keep in mind that daily hours were shorter because of a 6 day week. But on reflection the amount of abuse our bodies take now a shorter day and 6 days would probably be better, with the nice early finishes on Saturdays.

In my unit, 90% of full-time duties were already 5 day attendances when I started in 1992 (8 hours 59 minute span on weekdays, 5 hours 29 minutes span on Saturdays, SA payment on Saturday off weeks), and had been for a couple of years prior to that. The other 10%, and all part-time duties, were 6 day attendance. By 1996, every duty in the office had been converted to 5 day attendance following a revision.

I think it may have been 2003 as it came in the same time as two deliveries stopped didn't it?

March 2004 was the official date for all Delivery Units to go to a 5 day 40 hour working week. Though some units were already on it by local agreement, and some are still on a 6 day week with SA being used for Saturday attendances.

d) In conjunction with the introduction of the single daily delivery, all operational grades within each unit will move on to a 5 day week, with all full-time employees moving to a standard 40 hour week.
