It is quite simple really.Pat Ostman wrote: I think the inclination is, perhaps, and I might be going out on a limb here, that Royal Mail figures are not trusted.
Your DOM has a traffic figure for the day.
He also has the percentage of sequenced mail that goes to your walk. And the total figure is counted by the machines.
It is probably fairly accurate to assume that the percentage of mail from the IPS is the same (though we used to test that as well)
From those figures he can tell you (or you could work out yourself) how many items of mail you have on any given day to within 5-10%.
You then count your mail.
If the figures show you should have 1000 items and you have 2000, then the total traffic has been grossly underestimated.
If the figures show you should have 1000 items and you have 1050 then the traffic figure is correct.
It takes about 5 minutes. Probably less time than it has taken to post this on here.

From a manager, yes... maybe some current reps could investigate during their resourcing meetings this week...BeamishStout wrote:Is this something RM have admitted?lollollol wrote:... apparently mail volumes are up from this time last year...

I thought the DOM had an estimated amount for the day and the TRUE(er) figures are published the following day.clashcityrocker wrote:It is quite simple really.Pat Ostman wrote: I think the inclination is, perhaps, and I might be going out on a limb here, that Royal Mail figures are not trusted.

I should add that this is unlikely to be a wholly national trend given TNT have muscled in to a number of areas and to a lesser extent Amazon are delivering their own stuff...lollollol wrote:From a manager, yes... maybe some current reps could investigate during their resourcing meetings this week...BeamishStout wrote:Is this something RM have admitted?lollollol wrote:... apparently mail volumes are up from this time last year...
It's worth looking in to if in any particular office you are struggling to complete and/or lapsing is taking place...

And how different are they?Pat Ostman wrote:

Don't you count your trays and redskins when they come into the office?
Don't you know what your ACFs are and you can see if some trays are clearly over that?
The machine figure probably accounts for over half your mail.
I'm not talking about being accurate to the last letter.
And if the MC figures and your actual figures are wildly different don't you challenge them.
And ultimately you can ask for a full office count if you believe your traffic figures are so wrong.
You cannot resource a unit if you don't have a clue what your traffic figures are.
Or as I asked - is it just easier to post on here about how it is all bollocks?
Because what would you do if the figures were proved to be correct?

Wildly sometimes. And how different are they?
I have known figures to be around 44,000 out between one day and the actual. Since they use the estimates for lapsing that's the difference between a few loops on lapse. Packets and letters counted as one and the same? Estimates never lower than the actuals, ever? Weaker offices have weaker, unchallenged figures.
That's why I think it's bollocks, and clash, you are beginning to worry me.

The DOM workS it out on how many will cut off if they do lapsing
or he will give the lapsed round as docket if he needs to leave early if Arsenal have a big game

A 44 000 discrepancy between estimated and actual figures?Pat Ostman wrote: I have known figures to be around 44,000 out between one day and the actual.
That is the equivalent of about 850 trays of flats appearing in your DO without anyone noticing. Twenty full yorks?
I don't know how big your office is or your daily traffic but a 44 000 discrepancy in any office I know would be like the DOM saying there is no mail at all on a busy day in the run up to Xmas.
Somebody would notice something.

Re: The "Model Week"
our figures last week were estimated on wednesday at 42000,,next day the true figure was 64000. thurday was estimated at 49000. it came back on friday. at 67000.. d2ds arent counted either...6 sets on my round is 4944 items of mail. the dom says the sequenced trays hold 190/200 on average,,me and my mate count them regularly. and regularly there's about 300/340 in them. its no wonder people think its ''bollox'....and its a precursor to bringing in performance issues...'

Re: The "Model Week"
Our model week is around 130,000. Not all flats are counted.
