overtime allocation

Hi everyone,

just a quick query.. at my M/C overtime is usually allocated in 4 hour blocks in afternoon evening and morning etc. I usually do 4 hours in the afternoon whenever it is available. I am a weekend worker so the overtime i perform is on my days off..

I've checked next weeks overtime allocation and they have reduced my 4 hour block to 3.5 hours due to not being on duty after or before as apparently there is an agreement with cwu that if overtime is on a day you are on duty it has to be 4 hours... Therefore they can reduce my overtime and give me less than others. ?

it seems unfair. Any thoughts please?

How many hours will you be working on your OT? If its 4 hours working you should be paid for 4 but if your working less than 4 hours its going to be hard to argue for 4 hours pay

Sorry I don't think I have made myself clear,

for clarificarion as an example there are 10 people in on overtime in 4 hour blocks and I've only been given 3.5 hours. When I asked why I was told they are on duty after or before overtime and therefore they have to be given minimum of 4 hours. Where as they can give me less as its my day off..

Well if thats the rules agreed at m/c and by cwu there isnt much u can do about it,if u want the ot then do it and if not dnt there are others who will

Yeah. It does sound like a weird rule and unfair. My guess is that whenever it was agreed upon, management had originally proposed doing it for all the staff, not just for people coming in on their day off. Like, for situations where they'd had enough work for someone to show up for a few hours but didn't need them for the whole four. (Such as the early afternoon when traffic flow is still fairly light.) Applying it only to people who weren't already at work sounds like some sort of compromise.

you were clear, but my question still is how much work were you going to be doing?

Well I have been given 3.5 hours so I'll be doing 3.5 hours work. I don't expect to get paid for anymore than 3.5 hours either. The question wasn't pay related it was the allocation of overtime that I was querying.

This has just changed so I have no idea. I am in this aft but according to a colleague I spoke with he said they are cutting overtime where they can... and as I'm not on duty they don't have to adhere to the 4 hour block rule.

just seems a bit unfair. Its the travelling more than anything, its a 50 mile tound trip and going in for 4 hours was the minimum I could fo to make it worth while.
