11 CATEGORY A: This Conference notes that Royal Mail Group have not
embraced the new Attendance Procedure in the terms and spirit of the
Agreement. Our members accepted the arguments put forward that there
would be no need for appeals at all Stages as we were entering a new period of
trust and that there would be joint roll out training and therefore understanding
of the new agreement. Royal Mail managers have instead returned to the
position previously adopted that, as there is no appeal at Attendance Review
Stages 1 or 2 then it is ok to issue formal notification warnings regardless of
circumstance or reference to the Equalities Act 2010. at those stages. This
policy is compounded by managers hiding behind this lack of appeal facility to
perpetuate their abuse of our members. Furthermore, they refuse to accept
that their actions in disregarding valid mitigation such as the equality legislation
as legitimate grounds for our members to register a grievance, because they are
‘only’ at Stage 1 or 2.
Therefore, this Conference instructs the Postal Executive to seek amendment to
the Attendance Procedure to allow appeals at all Stages.
The Postal Executive is instructed accordingly.
