Royal Mail drivers given parking tickets because new permits are late in the POST

A WHOLE fleet of Royal Mail van drivers have been slapped with fines this week after their parking permits were late being delivered.

The ten postmen from the Shepton Mallet branch in Somerset were greeted with tickets on their vans after they were deemed to not have displayed a valid permit.

It is believed the courier service at Shepton Mallet in Somerset had applied for new season tickets but the permits were delayed being delivered.

Postage officials have confirmed they will now appeal the fines.

Royal Mail spokesman, Mike Norman, told a local newspaper: “We can confirm that 10 Royal Mail vehicles received penalty charge notices on Sunday April 13.

"We will be challenging these notices through the council’s official process."

It is not yet known which courier is delivering the new permits but the council have warned anyone applying for renewals to apply as early as possible.

A spokeswoman for Mendip District Council said: "We cannot comment on individual cases, but we would like to remind tickets holders they must renew their season tickets."

On Monday, it was reported that the Government are gearing to sell the rest of its stake in the courier service.

The agreement that stopped them from selling the remaining 30% expired on Sunday and now officials are said to be waiting on a share price jump to sell it off.

Royal Mail users were greeted with rising prices earlier this month after the Government sold the majority of the company last October.

First class stamps increased by 2p to 62p and second class now start at 53p rather than 50p.

The price jumps have seen the biggest increases in years, with a first class stamp costing 46p in 2012, a third less than what it is now.
