Can a Rep please give me some advice

Had an un-authorised absence (second one) due to having really bad personal problems over the past 2 weeks, girlfriend broke her back and also her ex partner was threatening to kill her and daughter so was off work and stupidly I didnt call work to tell them as my head was so far up my arse due to all the problems we had. Went in this morning to be told by my manager that I had 2 options either to get the sack and it would show on my record or to resign and it would not show on my work record that I would be sacked. The reasons he gave was

1) 1 previous no show without contact.
2) On the 27th Sep I was at my grandma's funeral and said I would do my round after it and they left it in a fellow posties garden, being very upset that day I didnt do the round and didnt contact them.
3) The first contact I made with them sinse the 27th Sep was this morning when I went for the interview as my head was up my arse with all the problems

I was on a 24 hour contract and am not a member of the CWU although I supported fully during all the strikes, I didnt sign the form saying that I did/didnt want a person to come in with me the only thing I had to sign was the resignation note, Is it worth fighting or would it be a waste of time ?

Well james if you where in my area i would certainly back u as long as you filled in the union form and handed it to me, theres a lot of non members who have been on strike and supporting the IA so as far as im concerned go and speak to your rep and as long as you have been on strike and are willing to sign the union membership form WELCOME ABOARD and good luck.

You DO NOT FULL STOP go in without a rep, everything is purely to impress other more senior managers as everything is so deliberately regimented to a foregone conclusion , 2 Whether they like it or not they'd be reluctant to try things on 3 If they did anything underhand RM would find people to swear blind such & such didn't happen , you'd come up against a brick wall and RM stating black is white .
I'd seek outside advice re RM but a good rep can state what RM can or can't do and what could POSSIBLY not look good in a ET . I think that Manager wants you to go quietly and the S**t being swept under the carpet as they didn't chase you. You MAY AND emphasise may, have some chance if RM have botched something. I think that manager has . don't get me wrong in civvy street you'd probably get the sack for repudiation of contract .Also with AL it will get worse, that's why the union and it's members are literally fighting for their lives . Leighton is one absolute c**t, a corporate psycopath and that Crozier is one nasty little s**t.

So he should be in the union... YES... HE knows this.... Its also down to his rep... If he/she aint come to him... Some of the blame has to be laid at there feet... OK a certain local "nutter" has pointed out I've been a bit harsh here, excuse me but these are tense times . . . . . . follow the advice above and get that union form in NOW . . . . . straight away you've got the support of about 100,000 of us and, perhaps more importantly, also your office and area reps who will know your rights and anything else they can use in your favour . . . . you'll also have access to Simpson and Millar the union solicitors and I know from experience they are bloody good and won't cost you a penny . . . . . the very best of luck to you and thank you for your support during the strikes when even some of our own members have let us down
