Royal Mail has specially designed a postmark to mark Homecoming celebrations in Scotland
The Homecoming postmark will feature on all Scottish outward mail through its 3 main mail centres


Scottish Mail will carry a special Royal Mail postmark to celebrate Homecoming 2014.

The Universal Postal Service provider will create a new postmark for all Scottish mail being posted through its three main mail centres in April and in October as celebrations gear up and reach their peak in the Autumn.

Royal Mail only issues special postmarks for major events in the UK or to mark special historic dates. It’s the first time it has been used for Homecoming or a major Scottish event.

Tourism Minister Fergus Ewing MSP said: “This is a massive year for Scotland with the second Year of Homecoming, the Commonwealth Games and the Ryder Cup all putting our country on the international stage. The commemorative postmark developed by Royal Mail for our second Year of Homecoming will further help to promote the year-long, co-ordinated programme of events designed to celebrate the very best of Scotland’s food and drink, our assets as a country of natural beauty as well as our rich creativity and cultural and ancestral heritage and further boost Scotland’s reputation as a dynamic and creative nation.

“Ancestral Scots, the people of Scotland and all those with an affinity for Scotland are invited to join the celebration in 2014 when Scotland Welcomes the World during this extraordinary year for Scottish tourism.”

Julie Pirone, Royal Mail Director of External Relations, added: “We are delighted to be carrying this special postmark on mail to mark the Scottish Government’s Homecoming celebrations. We hope these will capture everyone’s imagination throughout the country and those who visit us from abroad during the year-long celebrations.”

The postmarks will appear on all stamped and franked mail from April 14th until the end of the month and then again for the month of October.
