Britain's most violent inmate, career criminal Charles Bronson, protests over Prison Service's four-year backlog of his letters

Charles Bronson, the notorious life inmate, is threatening to sue the Prison Service after being handed a backlog of his undelivered mail going back four years.

Bronson, 61, often called Britain’s most violent prisoner, who had been in jail for 40 years, has been told that incoming and outgoing letters and parcels, dating back to 2010, had not been delivered.

In 2010, Bronson was banned from sending out his artwork, which can sell for up to £1,000.

Two months ago, he was moved from HMP Woodhill in Buckinghamshire to HMP Wakefield, after allegedly attacking a governor.

Bronson, whose birth name is Michael Peterson, is believed to be especially angry that three letters to his mother were undelivered, as well as numerous postcards of his drawings, destined for charity.

A Woodhill governor visited him to hand over the backlog.

A supporter of Bronson said: “Charlie has forwarded this to his solicitor and we are now going to pursue this as it is unlawful.”

The Prison Service declined to comment on individual cases.
