Okay, thanksTrueBlueTerrier wrote: The Bond is Royal mails insurance which only covers the 3rd Party not the posties vehicle. The bond itself is a sum of money put aside for insurance claims rather than the business having to pay insurance companies.

I never said that RM would cover you for business useLincox wrote:Xz Royal Mail have never covered you for business insurance. They will or have provided a bond but only where someone has business insurance cover on their vehicle.

Re: Deliveries done in workers own cars..?
Yes but that business insurance did not cover you for carrying mail, it would have covered you for travelling between offices, but as soon as a single item of mail for delivery is put in the car your policy did not cover you, to be covered you would have needed couriers insurance which costs thousandsDarren Bent wrote:My quote for renewal is 575 pounds and went to different company and no business insurance and using it for work which made it drop to 290 pounds. Just to let you know.

You have put that before the revision Royal Mail would have insured you implying that you would be covered for business use.

no you assumed that, i never implied anything, prior to the office revision, the Private Car On Deliveries procedure was in place and provided cover for your vehicle, at no point did i say or imply that it provided business use coverageLincox wrote:You have put that before the revision Royal Mail would have insured you implying that you would be covered for business use.

Is it OK to transport delivery bags in private cars to first port of call: such as taking 2 bags to get to the bicycle store house and then onward delivery on the bike?
The rest of the bags will be dropped of by the partner... Yes, we have had a Revision but some walks have special dispensation to use bikes. One walk especially is encouraged to use a bike to free up a Van when there is a shortage.
Also, will it be OK to do 'Lapse' with a private car?
* This is not me by the way: just some runners in the office - some are too impatient to wait for their partners.
NO to all of the above, after revision private cars are not covered by royal mail unless under very specific and extremely limited circumstances

So if it was not covering Royal Mails business use, what was it covering them for?zx135 wrote:no you assumed that, i never implied anything, prior to the office revision, the Private Car On Deliveries procedure was in place and provided cover for your vehicle, at no point did i say or imply that it provided business use coverageLincox wrote:You have put that before the revision Royal Mail would have insured you implying that you would be covered for business use.

(a) accidents caused by a third party are down to the member to resolve and RML will
not help them.
(b) If a members car is stolen, vandalized or broken into on delivery, it's down to the
member and is not covered by RM’s policy.
(c) Members who have not completed the RML private car use employee declaration
are uninsured and illegal.
(e) Only members who have paid for their private motor insurance policy to be extended
to include commercial/business use comprehensive insurance cover out of their own
pocket, having declared the intended use (Mail deliveries etc) to their own private motor
insurers and paid the increased premium can be sure of full cover!

top of page 23 in the BT 2010 agreement
"All delivery revisions will be planned on the basis of no use of private cars. Private cars on delivery will cease upon the deployment of a Delivery Methods revision in a unit"
pretty clear then, NO private cars on delivery , refuse to use them and if your DOM insists ask for it in writing, pass that on to your rep and watch the practice soon stop.

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: Deliveries done in workers own cars..?
It beggars belief who would ever use their car when it costs them several hundred squid to insure for business use (mail deliveries), costs them petrol, wear and tear, etc and Royal Mail will have f.ck all to do with any risk to the vehicle. It must be costing them money to do overtime using their vehicles.
