GLASGOW DO!!! Why we went back

Today our office in Glasgow stayed out. We were the only one in Glasgow to do so. We told management that the new start times were still under dispute and that that was part of the reason we had been out on strike so far, therefore we couldn't return. John Lynn the CWU area rep and the branch secretary (whose name i've forgotten, sorry) were contacted as was RM area manager Gerry MacCauley. We had a meeting which discussed the start times and flexibility. MacCauley said "the new start times are hear to stay as in 2 weeks the planes will arrive later and so will the trucks, which would mean you posties would be standing around with nothing to do if we didn't change your start times. As for flexibility, it wont happen in the near future".

Questions were fired at MacCauley but no real answers were given, he liked to circumvent what ever questions were asked of him.

We then discussed with the union privately our options. The CWU asked us to go back because they felt it would jeapordise the official strike. RM could claim that we had broken the rules regarding strike action and try and force a re-ballot, thus screwing up the action planned from next week. After 4 hours we complied with the union and returned to work. At this point we had no idea that Liverpool and London were out, we thought we were on our own and that we might f**k it up for everyone else.

No mail was delivered in our office today, only IPS was done, even the specials failed.

Let's see what tomorrow brings.

PS John Lynn's union privledges were suspend after lunch time today, despite the fact that he was the one who convinced us to go back. Bastards

I think you have done the right thing going back, it was also important that you walked it was not for nothing it gave publicity to the later starts. I had a few customers ask if royal mail were really making us start later..... they were absolutly gob smacked and one guy had a business and could not believe they had not bothered to inform him... well done the Weegies
