Royal mail looks at moving Stourport delivery office

ROYAL Mail has confirmed it is looking into the possibility of moving the Stourport delivery office to Kidderminster after rumours resurfaced - just two years after it quashed original plans.

The future of the delivery office has been uncertain for about four years and staff, businesses and residents have previously voiced concerns that moving it would have a detrimental effect on the service.

Postal chiefs quashed plans to move the High Street office to Kidderminster in 2012 but it is now back on the table of talks with bosses undertaking a feasibility study into the possibility of relocating.

Val Bodden, spokeswoman, said: "Royal Mail confirms that it is undertaking a feasibility study into the possibility of moving our current delivery office site at Stourport to our delivery office in Kidderminster.

"Royal Mail has been going through one of the biggest transformation programmes ever undertaken in the UK and is a commercial business, operating in a market that is open to competition from other postal operators and is always looking at ways to reduce its costs and improve efficiency, with minimal impact on its customers and our people.

"Whenever a delivery office move goes ahead, we would always offer our customers alternative means of receiving undelivered items of mail, including delivery to neighbour and free re-delivery to the addressee, and to another local address in the same postcode area.

"We also operate an open and honest policy with our people and any modernisation or transformation proposals being considered would always involve full discussions with all staff affected by any proposed change. There will be no compulsory redundancies as a result of this proposed merger."

I hope Stourport are aware of some managerial practices that are being complained about at Kidderminster http://www.cwu.org/assets/_files/docume ... A_2014.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

This Conference deplores the disgraceful treatment by management of a former OPG CWU member in Kidderminster Delivery Office.

The member was dismissed for the alleged wilful delay of 9 letters. He denied any misconduct stating that he followed the established office procedure when there was insufficient duty time to deliver all mail.

The Appeals Manager accepted that the member had followed the established office procedure and advised local management that he intended to uphold the appeal. The dismissing manager then produced a WTLL brief that purported to show that the office procedure had been changed and that the member had been briefed on this as his signature was one of the attendees at the WTLL briefing. The member denied ever attending any such WTLL briefing. This ‘evidence’ was fatal to the member’s appeal and his dismissal was confirmed.

The dismissing manager has now admitted, in writing, that this ‘evidence’ was in fact fabricated. He further alleges that this fabrication was done under the instruction of the DSM who had threatened him with the loss of his job if he did not submit this fabricated evidence.

This Conference is appalled that despite having this devastating new evidence presented to them the business is refusing to reinstate the member.

This Conference agrees the following:-
Applauds the member’s colleagues who have voted unanimously for a strike action ballot in support of the member.
Fully supports the demand that the member be reinstated.
Instructs the Postal Executive to raise the member’s case at the highest levels within Royal Mail Group to obtain his reinstatement.
Instructs the Postal Executive to consider giving widespread national publicity to the member’s case both within the CWU and to the wider press and public.

Demands an independent investigation into the culture and practices of the management within the Wolverhampton delivery areas. The results of which must be shared with the CWU.

Agrees that the CWU will not accept that Royal Mail is genuine about Delivering Cultural Change until such time as it agrees to reinstate the member. The CWU position will be formally advised to the Chief Operating Officer, Royal Mail Group.

The Postal Executive is instructed accordingly.
