Picking duty rules
Right so there are nine duties just went on the board, I'm somewhere near the bottom of the pick.the two bottom duties are floats which I don't really want but have applied for all the duties in order of preference ,my question is I know people already duty holders will apply which would free up there duties if I was to get the float duty would that prevent me getting one of the duties made vacant by them or would I be buggered, as it would seem somebody less senior than me would pick the spare duties in the second pick as I would be stuck with the float from the first pick,is there a cooling off period or could I refuse the float if there will be other duties coming up, sorry for the confusing post as I'm also confused

Re: Picking duty rules
The way I see it is,the most senior gets first pick and so on,you shouldn't get a pick or be able to put your name to a duty until it's your turn,by then you should be able to see if any duties have become available due to people who are already on duties picking one of the nine.,also some might be reserved for f/t or p/t,so just wait and see.

Re: Picking duty rules
What they have done is give out application forms and the Dom has pissed off for two weeks, I know I'm in line for something due to seniority I just feel its the wrong way to do it.but I suppose I will find out soon enough

Re: Picking duty rules
You pick a duty in our office and then can't pick another for 12 months, if you don't like what you've picked then you can revert to reserve but still can't pick for 12 months.

Re: Picking duty rules
you have covered your bets by applying for the nine duties that are available in order of preference. The floating duties I expect would be at the bottom of your pick and you would be unaware if colleagues with more seniority than you are to apply for any of the seven listed duties ( doubt if they would surrender their duty for a floating) and better duties may become available if seniority holders vacate their duties. Unless you know before it becomes your turn to pick what duties have become available then you are in limbo land. You can withdraw from your application but there is the possibility that you may be penalised by withdrawing by applying for further duty vacancies. You would need to remove the duties that you are not considering from your application before the pick commences to keep yourself in the clear.

Who decides that some walks are reserved for f/t or p/t staff and what would be the reason to do this?DB1100 wrote:The way I see it is,the most senior gets first pick and so on,you shouldn't get a pick or be able to put your name to a duty until it's your turn,by then you should be able to see if any duties have become available due to people who are already on duties picking one of the nine.,also some might be reserved for f/t or p/t,so just wait and see.

Re: Picking duty rules
To request a resign there has to be a major change of 5% of the total duties within your office under the way forward agreement. Colleagues who have not held their current post for 12 months may not be able to participate in the resign unless there is a local agreement. Holders of duties that are not effected by major change do not have to place their duty in the resign pot unless they volunteer hoping for a better duty in the resign than the one that they currently hold. I would estimate that colleagues with high seniority would already be in a comfortable duty and therefore would be unwilling to put their duty into the resign.

Re: Picking duty rules
Apologies posting should have stated under the Way Of Working Agreement and in particular Section 16 for a resign to be considered a third of the duties have to have subjected to a major change in duty content or in attendance times which would have a significant impact on the business. The remainder of my original posting is correct. Furthermore are you still waiting payment for the revision that your DOM has failed to complete?rehabron wrote:To request a resign there has to be a major change of 5% of the total duties within your office under the way forward agreement. Re: Picking duty rules
When we went on to park and loop nearly 3 years ago, this is how it was presented to us with union approval, the fulltimers could pick from all the rurals, all the driving duties and all the hybrids,so the part timers had a pick from 8 walks but were not allowed to be drivers,it was a right con but as we were one of the first in our area to go on to P&l It was new to everyone, there are only 2 part timers above me in seniority and I am above at least half of the fulltimers,it is not a happy office and if we ever have a repick things will be done different, when I start at 0800 some of the fulltime teams are heading out the door and the last ones out are the F/T P/T teams because we start later.celerycelery wrote:Who decides that some walks are reserved for f/t or p/t staff and what would be the reason to do this?DB1100 wrote:The way I see it is,the most senior gets first pick and so on,you shouldn't get a pick or be able to put your name to a duty until it's your turn,by then you should be able to see if any duties have become available due to people who are already on duties picking one of the nine.,also some might be reserved for f/t or p/t,so just wait and see.

Re: Picking duty rules
I would have thought the repick was easiest bit of whole procedure. Number 1 in seniority picks a walk and so on. Then the indoor times are added after. We do seem to want to complicate things.

Re: Picking duty rules
if you are successful in the resign then any future applications will not be considered for the next 12 months.gary1975 wrote:Right so there are nine duties just went on the board, I'm somewhere near the bottom of the pick.the two bottom duties are floats which I don't really want but have applied for all the duties in order of preference ,my question is I know people already duty holders will apply which would free up there duties if I was to get the float duty would that prevent me getting one of the duties made vacant by them or would I be buggered, as it would seem somebody less senior than me would pick the spare duties in the second pick as I would be stuck with the float from the first pick,is there a cooling off period or could I refuse the float if there will be other duties coming up, sorry for the confusing post as I'm also confused
