Round is too big

Hi all,

We've recently had a revision and a re-sign in our office, I'm at the bottom of the seniority list so signed for the only remaining part time round left. When the revision was in its bedding in period this round was being done by the sort who come in early, take no break, and run like hell, which makes the round look easy. Now when I do it I end up going way over my time, claiming overtime for it and now management are wondering why i'm taking so long. I've told them it has been made to look easy by the runners, but this goes just straight over their head. Now they are on my case daily when I say I will need overtime they ask why and compare me to others in the office, and they are saying my prep times aren't good enough (they are completly unrealistic times anyway). I feel like they are trying to bully me into coming in early and running like the rest. What can I do in this situation?

Tell them its fine you do not want the overtime anymore and what part of the delivery do they want you to leave. Id also speak to rep or area rep if you don't have a rep in the office and raise your concerns with him/her. Id also say you want the walk testing with the work place coach.

Having the outdoor element tested is pointless if they are saying he is failing to complete because his indoor performance is the problem.

The fact is they don't do any testing anymore, because in most cases they know the jobs are unachievable!

They would rather bully and harass until you give up and start coming in early and not having your meal relief.

Start on time, do your job at an acceptable and reasonable speed, take your full break, do your d2d's at a 1/6 a day (including cold calling) Use the specified delivery methods equipment for your duty and then ask them which part of the walk you would like them to leave behind!

You have to be quite a stubborn sod to stick to this, yes you will work all your hours including Saturdays, but you will never lapse and your stress levels will plummet.

The screws can't do anything and they hate it!

Everyone needs to stand up to these clowns, keep calm and cut off!

Get management to write down what they expect of you in terms of prep performance,I had similar problems to you,I am only 30 hours so thats 6 hours a day which equals 4hr 30 walk,30 mins break, approx 20 mins for D2D'S,20 MINS TRAVELLING TIME,which left 20 mins to finish prep,do redirections,bundle up and load the van and a toilet break before leaving,fine in theory,what I was coming into was as follows;only my mech and a few flats would be prepped,I would have 3 or 4 boxes of I.P mail,2 or 3 rough bags to do and at least 14 redirections,this would take me about 45 mins to do,I got loads of grief for being too slow and not up to the job,however none of these allegations were made in front of witnesses and when the union rep was present,I asked them in front of the rep to write down what my prep performance should be and lo and behold they wouldn't,occasionally now they will come and watch me while I chuck a tray of mail in but most days me and my partner leave either a loop each or the big packets,tell your rep what is happening to you,keep a note of what happens to you and never go in to the DIm's office for a chat without a witness and above all don't worry you are not alone.

I don't know why people still think "doing the job properly" means you will never have to lapse.
I do all of those things yet on Tuesday I had about 4 1/2 hours work on IPS,prep and delivery.
Taking off my meal relief, I still had nearly 2 hours spare to lapse.

Clash, have you had your delivery methods revision?

If so are you on a van share?

Some great advice here, thanks lads. According to management I am not prepping fast enough, which is strange because if you put me on any other round I can prep and deliver to the times on the sheet most days. Its the round I signed for which has rediculous prep times... there is a full time round there with almost exactly the same number of slots on the frame yet the prep times are miles apart:

FT round with 565 slots, Start at 06:15, scheduled time out 09:10 (02:55)
PT round with 580 slots, Start at 07:00, scheduled time out 08:35 (01:35)

yep what i do i prep me walk put me door to doors in on the day and then let them know i cant lapse plus cut off you have to perserve and if you with a partner that doesnt wanna cut off you then ask dom/lino that you will need picking up at least 20 mins before your finishing time inc 10 mens end of delivery tasks and ten min travelling time back

HCT duty.
However I don't feel like one of the winners. If we don't have enough work to fill the hours, it won't be long before we don't have the jobs.

No - That FT round doesnt have to do IPS or prep other frames

No - That FT round doesnt have to do IPS or prep other frames

We've recently had a revision and I start at 06.00 do 20 mins IPS then have to prep from scratch 2 deliveries ( D2D'S.. Mech.. sorted..packets )
