Nuneaton's postal delivery office due to re-open this month

A MUCH-missed mail office will finally be re-opened this month.

Soon people will no longer have to travel to Coventry to pick up undelivered parcels as Nuneaton's Delivery Office will be officially back in business from Monday, April 14.

It has been four months since the office, which is based in Church Street, was forced to close.

At the end of November there was an accident at the office, involving a tail lift lorry, which smashed through the roof in the internal parking bay.

It was feared that it had caused an asbestos outbreak in the roof area and the office was shut immediately.

This caused chaos over the Christmas period, with staff having to be relocated and a temporary delivery and collection office being set-up in Ibstock Road in Coventry.

It caused even more hassle for householders who, if they missed a delivery, could no longer simply pop into Nuneaton to collect their parcel, but had to travel to the make-shift office based at the Three Spires Industrial Estate.

From day one, Royal Mail bosses have apologised for the inconvenience caused to customers and continued to do so when announcing the town's office will be re-opened.

"Royal Mail would like to thank all of our customers for their patience and understanding during the temporary, unforeseen relocation," said a spokesperson.

In the meantime, it has been stressed that people who have received a "Something for you" card will not need to travel to the delivery office to pick up parcels if they do not want to.

Royal Mail offers for items to be redelivered free to their address on a preferred day including Saturdays or to another address in the same postcode. Royal Mail also uses Delivery to Neighbour where the postman will leave your item with a neighbour unless customers wish to opt out of this service.

Any customers who wish to collect their parcels at Nuneaton Delivery Office when it re-opens should note the opening hours are: Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm, Saturday 7am to 12.30pm.

People who have any queries, should call customer services on 0845 601 1399.
