Growth in parcels/Sunday delivery next?

When Dave Ward came to our AGM in Bath a few weeks ago he was asked about sunday deliveries.
He said he was all for it, as it was more work for everyone, so keep everyone in a job but it was not on the adgenda at the moment and him and Moya had just briefly chatted about it.
He said it would only be volunteers on overtime no one forced, or staff taken on for just weekend work.
We shall see.

Only a matter of time. Other couriers have and do deliver on a Sunday, so RM (no matter what is said at the moment) will have to follow suit.

Really who? Never had a delivery on a Sunday, though I do believe RM are going to have to start collecting from customers on a Sunday for Monday delivery, as at the moment anything ordered Friday after the cut off time is delivered on Tuesday, where as yodel may if they can be bothered collect for delivery Monday, if they get round to it.

Do other delivery companies even deliver on a Saturday? I don't think I have ever received a private courier delivery on a Saturday.

It will be just on OT.............at least at the beginning, if they can't get the people to do it then they will start to arrange for it to be peoples work hours, in my office there would still be plenty to do it (although a few of them are Saturday heavy drinkers so I would expect some to lose their licences.........especially when I let it be known to the police that they may be over the limit).

get moya/dave/billy to do sunday workings they all need to lose some weight.
not been on here for a while due to the farce vote on the latest deal
as i would have been banned, still not got over the vote only 3500-4000 no votes.
and now just to rub salt in the wounds managers are talking of going on strike would this mean our union will come out of this 2014 agreement as they have broken the agreement. probly not.

If it helps to create jobs that can only be a good thing, if you don't want to work Sundays you can always use the EU working time directive, also health & safety grounds for rest days, no one should be forced to work 7 days a week, its actually counter productive, work rate will go down as the employee become more fatigued, less efficient and more prone to accidents.

Instead create more part time jobs and utilise overtime.

A person can’t be made to work on Sundays unless they and their employer agree and put it in writing (eg change the contract).

However

An employee can opt out of Sunday working at any time, even if they have agreed to work on Sundays in their contract.

The employee must give their employer 3 months’ notice that they want to opt out of Sunday working. will this mean offices open on a saturday night to shift work for the delivery offices on
a sunday,also what will the rate be double time or a day in leiu.
also what will happen on a monday/tuesday with less work.

When we had Sunday Duties in MCs (and there are still a few) the Sunday ot rate was paid, supposedly 'double time' but in reality it was only a few pence more than the standard hourly rate, in London anyway.
Some mcs opted for SA rate for Sundays, but we had ot rate as then we got paid for meal reliefs which were also a few minutes longer.
