Re: Saturdays
It only arrives in MCs the day before it's due. DOs not taking out MS3 on a Saturday probably played a part in that stuff going over to DSAdaveyeff wrote:aye, some of that mail is standing in mail centres nearly all week and they decide to send it out to the D.O.s for a saturday morning delivery. why.? got to be deliberate.ebbzie wrote:All the DSA which used to be mailsort 3zx135 wrote:so what items would we leave behind so we can finish earlier on a saturday?

Re: Saturdays
This could be the last Saturday to finish early in our office. Tomorrow i'm in at 7, out the door by 8.30/9 and done 2.5 hours later so about 11.30 finish. As of next week i'm on 30 hour contract due to revision starting at 8.30, the official finish time is 14.30 i think. Might be able to be done by 13.30 but more likely 14:00/14:30

Re: Saturdays
Royal mail needs to adjust it's half-baked work plan.
We deliver more packets than ever before, yet they have us out delivering later than ever before.
Where's the logic in that?

Re: Saturdays
Just been out to get some breakfast, and already, I've seen two of my customers who I now know won't be in if I have to knock.
Lot of people already on the high street.
If they 'aint in, packets come back. Simple as that.

Re: Saturdays
so why would so many people lose jobs just because we work mon to fri and all have the same days off? sounds a bit crazy to me , theres still gonna be the same amount of work load. please clear this up for me.OnAFlyer wrote:It would be nice - but not so much for the 15,000 or so posties who would lose their jobs.Chelseablue wrote:We need a mon to fri ,gives you time for you're body to rewind and get some quality family time .

If we only worked 5 days instead of six the floaters would not be neededstar2010 wrote:so why would so many people lose jobs just because we work mon to fri and all have the same days off? sounds a bit crazy to me , theres still gonna be the same amount of work load. please clear this up for me.OnAFlyer wrote:It would be nice - but not so much for the 15,000 or so posties who would lose their jobs.Chelseablue wrote:We need a mon to fri ,gives you time for you're body to rewind and get some quality family time .

Re: Saturdays
Walk lengths would have to be cut to cope with the extra mail spread across the week. There may be job losses but it wouldn't be anything as severe as that kind of scaremongering would suggest.P13 wrote:If we only worked 5 days instead of six the floaters would not be neededstar2010 wrote:so why would so many people lose jobs just because we work mon to fri and all have the same days off? sounds a bit crazy to me , theres still gonna be the same amount of work load. please clear this up for me.OnAFlyer wrote:It would be nice - but not so much for the 15,000 or so posties who would lose their jobs.Chelseablue wrote:We need a mon to fri ,gives you time for you're body to rewind and get some quality family time .

Re: Saturdays
If anything with the hours from Saturday split over the Mon-Fri I'd expect RM to either make you do a collection at the end of your walk or make your walks longerMr Blonde wrote:Walk lengths would have to be cut to cope with the extra mail spread across the week. Eh?
More indoor work and more outdoor work to be absorbed over the five weekdays and you think there would be time to add collections on the end?
Oh, you work in a MC. I see...

There wouldn't be any hours to split over the M-F, as SpacePhoenix stated walks would need to be made smaller.SpacePhoenix wrote:If anything with the hours from Saturday split over the Mon-Fri I'd expect RM to either make you do a collection at the end of your walk or make your walks longerMr Blonde wrote:Walk lengths would have to be cut to cope with the extra mail spread across the week. you only need to work 39 hrs a week for full timeSpacePhoenix wrote:If anything with the hours from Saturday split over the Mon-Fri I'd expect RM to either make you do a collection at the end of your walk or make your walks longerMr Blonde wrote:Walk lengths would have to be cut to cope with the extra mail spread across the week. Re: Saturdays
Very little chance of that, certainly not on the scale you're suggesting. Absorbing Saturday's mail/packets over 5 days wouldn't make a huge difference. Half a box of sequencing a day, a fifth of the IPS mail and some packets, how many jobs is that realistically going to save? Then think how much more most walks could take on a Tuesday as they're so light.Budfrog wrote:SpacePhoenix wrote: There wouldn't be any hours to split over the M-F, as SpacePhoenix stated walks would need to be made smaller.
With mail volumes falling (and they are), the CWU would simply look to use the extra volume each day to protect the remaining jobs, especially FT.
It isn't scaremongering, the ones who think a 5 day delivery wouldn't lose thousands of jobs are having themselves on.
