Re: More closure rumours
Thanks for the info. I've moved office before and it's going to be a big change for everyone up there, especially those from Doncaster.

Re: More closure rumours
I heard Gatwick and Croydon are going to merge. Another big mail centre to be built in Coulsdon. Any truth about this?

Re: More closure rumours
That's plausible as the current Gatwick MC is on one of the possible sites for the second runway at the airportfreeshares13 wrote:I heard Gatwick and Croydon are going to merge. Another big mail centre to be built in Coulsdon. Any truth about this?![]()

Re: More closure rumours
RM final decision to cease all mail processing at POMC,and just keep DO and MPU at current site.
All PO outward and inward to be processed at SOMC.
Some of SOMC's CSS to be moved to Eastleigh DO,which will upgraded to a MPU.
No further details or timescales as yet...

Re: More closure rumours
We've been told that all css machines will move to Eastleigh and that an extension will be built onto somc building work to commence in March 2015, the do, css machines, cashco, amu and c&n will remain in Portsmouth, this will mean out rural runs will have to travel from Portsmouth to Eastleigh, load their 600's and then travel to their respective do's, it will be a phased migration with the inward moving last between April and August 2016hubbahubba wrote:RM final decision to cease all mail processing at POMC,and just keep DO and MPU at current site.

Re: More closure rumours
But aren't SOMC on borrowed time too? I would have thought they would build a modern new one in a few years maybe even incorporate BH/DT outward too

Re: More closure rumours
I think it'll be unlikely that any of them will stay in Portsmouth long term. The AMU can reasonably easily be moved to another RM site. The CSS machines could be moved to a DO nearer to SOMC to cut down on journey times for engineers if any breakdowns. Cashco could be moved to another site in Portsmouth. It'll be pointless having logistics (C&N) based at PO when it's no longer functioning as a MC.ritchie_54 wrote:the do, css machines, cashco, amu and c&n will remain in Portsmouth
Whats the total numbers of across PO and SO MCs as they stand for:
CSS Machines
IMPs
LSMs/iLSMs
MTT (there can't be that many MTTs left anywhere in the country)

On the nights and the early part of the early shift, for the IMPs that aren't being used for an inward plan, are they being used for sequencing?hubbahubba wrote:SOMCSpacePhoenix wrote:I think it'll be unlikely that any of them will stay in Portsmouth long term. There is talk of adding extra modules so that they can run the outward and both so/sp and po inward all at the same time.

Re: More closure rumours
Hi all I came across this yesterday not sure if its been circulated before worrying if it happens.
The Post and Parcel website reports that Royal Mail has raised objections to the route of the planned High Speed 2 rail route from London to Birmingham.
HS2, as the £43bn project is known, proposes a high-speed rail link between London’s Euston station and the city of Birmingham, with a second phase running up to Manchester and Leeds. Construction is planned to start in 2017, with the first phase open in 2026 and the second in 2032.
"The company said three major delivery offices covering a “very substantial” part of London would be subject of compulsory purchase orders, along with the Greenford Mail Centre in the London Borough of Ealing and the Castle Bromwich Delivery Office in Birmingham.
"The Greenford Parcel Sort Centre, a leased building, would also be affected by the rail project, and represents a key part of Royal Mail’s operations during the pre-Christmas peak parcel season, handling 15m parcels in November and December.
"Royal Mail said that without sufficient mitigation measures, it would not be able to carry out its statutory duty to deliver the mail if the HS2 project goes ahead in current form.
"The loss of the Camden Delivery Office to a compulsory purchase order would cause a particular headache, Royal Mail said, because similar sites 'are not generally available' in North London. Talks with the HS2 project managers are ongoing, Royal Mail said, but the mail company has failed to identify an alternative site, and said that it would not vacate its current delivery office unless an alternative site is found, even under a compulsory purchase order."
