Well that won't last long - there will be a question of my arse or his, sooner or later, and of course that's when the good manager role flies out of the window :cuppa

What you define as a good manager may well be why you do, or don't get it.

To you, a good manager may mean looking after your staff, but to RM a good manager means getting all the duties out with the minimum possible hours. And the two things generally don't mix well.

From what I have seen, peering into the dark side ,it is best to consider yourself a Reserve with slightly better pay,as most of the time you will be prepping walks,or delivering (after everyone else has finished). Stick with that you will not go far wrong. Within two weeks you will want to be back on the floor, especially after you try to cover all the duties that are vacant or uncovered due to sickness. As for the interview ,they will forget to mention any of the above, for the life of me i can't think why....
Cynical , moi?

Agree with James........It's basically a s**t deal. RM want their cake and be able to eat it. They'll expect you to crack the whip one minute but take a failing walk out and deliver it the next (normally in another DO). :no no

I suggest you talk to others that have tried this move and take their advice. I won't slag you down for going for the job....we've all got the same opportunities and we could all apply for it IF we wanted it. However in my experience I've never met an Assistant DOM/DOM Support that was happy with the situation.

It's been mentioned that your idea of being a "Good" Manager and RMs are not necessarily the same. I know what you're getting at but it seems that most Managers that a DO consider "Good" are normally shat on from above and given so much stress that they normally jack or go sick. :arrrghhh

The questions are structured and are essentially based around the 'six' key leadership behaviours mentioned in the online 'Job Details' and the 'Information For Candidates' document you should have received when you were invited to interview.

I guess being a manager you must remember that somedays you are the dog. and somedays your the lamp post. but in reality you spend more days being the later

The Six Key
One never do any work you can get someone else to do
Two never tell the truth
Three never help anyone
Four except yourself
Five stab everyone in the back
Six never let the five rules above from stopping you make up anything as long as you do not break the first five rules!.

1. Always arrive late to work
2. Always leave work early
3. Hide in the office if there is a problem
4. Always have a cup of coffee in hand
5. Use phrases like "Leave it with me" and "I'll get back to you" to avoid dealing with any issues
6. Never work a Saturday

Probably not what you were looking for :Very Happy
