Personally I prefer to get on the road and do some delivery before taking a break.

Can you forced to take 20 minutes before you leave the office? I really don't like doing it.

My DOM has said he can enforce it.

What about when the relevant agreement states that you can take some of your meal relief at the end of your duty. Can your employer still insist you take it in the middle?

Yeah, I've heard that. And it makes me wonder what's the point of a national agreement when a local yobbo can just make the rules up as he goes along, often with the co operation of the Union.

Sorry to be harsh but you stand nowhere.

To explain, if you finish early most days then they can expect you to do more work.

If you do the job properly (all of it by the book) then they can still add to your duty - but they cannot insist you work more than the hours you are contracted for.

Sorry to put the cat amongst the pigeons but what about being told to take a break as they have no work for you at the present time within 2 hours of an 8 and a half hour duty when you are the driver in park and loop. Just wondering on the legality of this and other matters around meal reliefs are these so called meal reliefs an enabler for failed systems of work and pipeline issues! I for one do think this needs the full attention of our union before someone is killed or seriously injured by the bonus culture management system that has run amok in royal mail at this present time!

Have your full 40 then, a manger cannot make you split it 20-20 that's your choice although I would inform them as to your plans. If you want 40 in one go mate you have it.

If the office has voted for a split 50/50 break, then that is what everyone should take.
If the first 20 minutes of the meal relief is at 9am and dispatch at 9.20, then how can one of a park and loop pairing decide they are going to take the full 40 minutes before dispatch?
It would be as stupid as one of them saying they don't want any of their meal relief prior to dispatch and leaving at 9am.

What the office voted for is what you get. It's called democracy.
If you don't like it you argue against it.
