That would be 80 millions pounds decision and Don't think Royal Mail can justify spending that much.clashcityrocker wrote:20 000 lost jobs at about £40 000 each.Bahia Feliz wrote:I'm sure they could get 1/5th of the workforce to go under evr or redundancy.OnAFlyer wrote:
Probably because Mon-Fri delivery would mean 1 in 6 staff losing their jobs. It would be great for those left (I can only dream of getting every weekend off) but not something the CWU is ever going to endorse - quite the opposite.
That would be a massive financial undertaking. Can't see RM going for that one.

If anything I think within 3 years RM will have to start doing Mon-Sun delivery, as other courier firms have started doing Sunday delivery

Why all the doom and gloom? Royal Mail have the network to deal with dso items end to end, all they need to do is seriously undercut TNT to shut them down, watch this space.

Probably most of the DSA stuff is the sort of things that used to go MS2 or MS3, so if RM is going to win some of the contracts back, they're going to have to make deliveries take out all MS3, every day, including Sunday.pj2001 wrote:Why all the doom and gloom? Re: 50% less mail this week
It's a very rough calculation, but only delivering 5 days per week would save RM several hundred million £ every year. For a start they would save more than £80m just in posties wages, then there is a massive drop in pension contributions, energy bills, managers and DOMs wages, fuel for vans etc etc.Darren Bent wrote:That would be 80 millions pounds decision and Don't think Royal Mail can justify spending that much.clashcityrocker wrote:20 000 lost jobs at about £40 000 each.Bahia Feliz wrote:I'm sure they could get 1/5th of the workforce to go under evr or redundancy.OnAFlyer wrote:

A one-off £80-£100m payment when you are going to recoup that in less than a year is a no-brainer for any business.

And how many millions would they loose from loosing contracts from customers who want Saturday deliveries (and maybe eventually even Sunday deliveries)?OnAFlyer wrote:It's a very rough calculation, but only delivering 5 days per week would save RM several hundred million £ every year. Nice Theory pity its against the law
Its called Access Headroom and put legislation in that limits how much Royal Mail can charge the DSA Companies, and what prices Royal Mail can offer to potential clients without it being "unfair" to our Competitors.

That just about sums up how quickly RM responds to changes in the market ... how about RM leading innovation for a change, to reward the shareholder you first need to look after your customers (consignors and recipients).SpacePhoenix wrote:If anything I think within 3 years RM will have to start doing Mon-Sun delivery, as other courier firms have started doing Sunday delivery

Re: 50% less mail this week
I was replying to the guy who said RM wouldn't pay out £80m in redundancy if it ever switched to a 5 day delivery. £80m would be pennies compared to what they'd save.SpacePhoenix wrote:And how many millions would they loose from loosing contracts from customers who want Saturday deliveries (and maybe eventually even Sunday deliveries)?OnAFlyer wrote:

I can't see RM losing anything other than a few larger packets, nobody else could ever afford to run a countrywide letter/small packet delivery service for the same costs as RM.
